I think Kesler will be the star for the Canucks in this one. I'd expect Chara to be against Sedins and Kesler getting the #2 pair which isn't much

I have this feeling that the GAA in this series will be ridiculously low and that it'll be won by grinding through shifts and putting away the garbage through traffic in front. Neither team is going to dangle its way or skate its way through the other.

I'm calling it here, Canucks in 5, or 6 with one OT loss.

If the Refs are scared of Colin Campbell and put away the whistle, then Boston might have a chance to pull it out in 7.

If it's called like regular season? It's over in 5.

Luongo's sv% 5 on 5 is on par with Thomas's.

And if you put a Bear against an Orca, the Bear would be dead.

I did enjoy game 7 without a penalty in the Boston vs Tampa Bay game. I wish we had more of those kind of games. They were so nice, and fast pace moving games.

For teh Stanley Cup, it could go either way.. but I'd like to see the Canucks win, but Tim Thomas will be one tough goalie to beat :P

If the bruins win, will Boston finally stop trying to replace Thomas? Heh they seem to hate the guy, he plays awesome then they bring in a replacement or move someone up.. The person plays like crap while Thomas plays as an awesome backup till they let him start again... Then they repeat the process all over the next year.

One thing if Vancouver pulls off the series...

People looking back in the books will see Canucks winning the Presidents Trophy and the Cup and think they were a dominating team.

I'd venture to say they're extremely weak compared to those accalaids... Just about above average team that got to play 35 games or so vs Colorado, Edmonton, Calgary, Minnisota had a huge boosting in thier wins column.

Also the road for the cup was rather light for them.. and the 2 best teams in the Eastern Conference both got knocked out leaving Tampa or Boston to face, and finally Boston.

Really the scenerios this year couldn't have been better for them.

They had the best penalty kill, power play, most goals for, least goals against, took out chicago, a tough Nashville team and beat the SECOND place western team when everyone says the west is stronger than the east and all you can do is comment on how the top 2 east teams both lost? They lost for a reason and the Canucks beat out the 2nd best west team in convincing fashion

Mr.Silver

Chicago was a squeeker series (best series I've watched in ages).

Nashville is a decent team but still not someone anyone would list as a real contender (what were the vegas odds on them winning the whole thing this year?)

I'd say Vancouver is one of the top 6 teams in the league. But my point is the way the stats book looks, they;ll look like they dominated the whole league all year long which isn't quite the case.

mm I disagree.

The west benefits from having a few extremely weak teams that the rest of the conference gets fed points from every season (and its been this way in the west for a while).

The distribution in the east is less spread out. I also believe (only through personal observation) that the east is a lot grittier/physical of a conference.

Mr.Silver

A Few years ago the West was alot tougher... Hell, Vancouver used to have likely the toughest division in the league for quite some time, where 4 of the 5 teams would make the playoffs and the other would be a contender right down to the last game.

The past few years there's been a big shift in that division and the conference as a whole.

The East has become alot tighter.

The West does have a few very strong teams, but too look at Vancouver's strength.

If you had a gun to your head and had to pick a team to pick Boston in a 7 game series, and if they lost, you lost :)
and you had a choice between Detroit, San Jose, and Vancouver. I don't think many people would chose the Canucks.

Havoc Game profile

The west dominated the west vs east matchups this year though and the previous year as far as I know. And the 8th placed team in the East would have been 11th in the west..

To say the west has more teams is a little pushing it.. Sure they had the only two teams with less than 70 points, but the East had more teams under .500, and more under 80 points (Ottawa, NYI, Florida, NJ)..

Why would I pick San Jose when Vancouver destroyed them? Why would I pick Detroit when their goaltending is only above average, they lack a full D corp, and they lost to the San Jose team that the Canucks beat in 5?

How about this for stats.

9th place in west had 95 points and it was followed by 94,87,86,81,68, and 62.
9th place in east had 91 points and was followed by 85,81,80, 74, 73, and 72.

6 teams in the east had losing records not including OT losses or anything except win/losses when facing the west. Only two teams in the west had losing records against the east. One of which was Edmonton.

Yah the west sure stinks.

You guys ignore the fact that the Canucks were dominant against non divisional opponents, and actually have a worst record against their own division.

You can whine all you want, but I'd like to see Boston go with out one of their top 4 dman all year.

Chicago was the defending champions, and I would put money down that they could take out half of the Eastern playoff qualifiers in a seven game series.

Nashville has arguably THE best defensive system in the league, their defensive core is top 5, with a top 3 goaltender. Their only issue is that they don't have any game breakers offensively. Give their D-core another two years, Franson and Blum will turn that top heavy D-core into THE best top 4 in the league.

San Jose are build to choke, so I guess the Canucks got a free pass there.

But so did Boston against the Flyers, who forgot to get a real goalie.

This year basically setup perfectly for the Canucks. I'll be happy if a Canadian Team wins it, I'll also be happy if Thomas wins a cup.

Boston's had its own injury problems, Savard currently, and Bergeron usually. I liked them alot more back when Neely played. He owned in NHL 92!

With Malholtra, Blackhawks, Predators and Sharks would have been much much easier series.

Don't forget, our most proven playoff performer in Samuelsson is out for the season, and we played Game 2 without Hamhuis.
