If you play for long enough, you'll notice that there's a certain sector that you will never be able to clear out, no matter how your ship is configured, no matter how many weapons you've got, no matter how awesome the battle is. I just like being able to customize my ship and seeing what I can come up with.
And, if you get bored with that, there's always the skirmishes.
