I can just picture the brainstorm session that produced this gem.

I'd have totally flown to Florida to pick up that amount

heh $14k is nothing; they'd probably spend more on posters for the place... seems like a reasonable way to get attention...
Finally did the signature thing.

I wonder how much the full investigation and audit will cost? Think it'll be under $14k?

I once got a $100 rebate on a new metal detector and tallied up that it cost $400 to process and get into the system.

ME FOR THE WIN! I should have cashed it and bought the field guys pizza.

*is still willing to collect $14k and a cape, if any are leftover*

Also, I was commenting on the idiotic cape gimmick, not the cash.

I imagine myself looking for work and going to this job fair in hopes of gainful employment. I don't think I quite fathom how utterly dejected I would be. To find a moronic supervillian to greet me and then being handed a cape. What's next, we all stop in the restroom and put our undies over our pants?

This tops getting toy dogtags as a gimmick to join the Army. Seriously?

Do you only get the dogtags if you join the army?

I think the concept behind the campaign is good, it was just poorly executed with the campaign itself.

I think it was a way to attempt to get people motivated to find a job for themselves. Too bad the way they did it made it look as if they were belittling the jobless.

The investigation and audit will get to the bottom of this, find out who was responsible, reprimand them, find out how something this stupid happened, and hopefully prevent some future wasting of money in a similar fashion. So the investigation and audit will actually accomplish something. You could still argue the cost isn't worth it, but just b/c it might cost more than 14k really has nothing to do with anything...

1.) employment agencies get commission for finding people employment
2.) they have to develop programs to motivate hardcore unemployed to find jobs
3.) money!!

It was a combination of seeing these people as money, and not thinking the program through properly.

Often these places don't care where they get people jobs.
