Given the status of the game at this point. What would you say is safer for a new country, or even a new player joining? A new tag / one they've created on their own or remain untagged?

one sided? Just a general post. Or do you think it makes no difference?

Either works just as well. I would choose doing something like C R O A T I A does. He runs his country, does it well, retals what he can and uses the same country name set after set. I suppose it doesn't hurt that many people know who he is--but that also comes with using the same country name.

There's always a chance if you have a tag that bottom feeders won't include you in their grabbing searches. It's unlikely, but its better than nothing

Neither will work. If you are serious about playing you would join a tag of 15+ members. As bigwiggle said your only hope for a slightly smaller amount of hits is to make your own tag... but unless you are good you'll be raped.

Best to join an established alliance, it’s not like it use to be where alliances are picky about their members. Most alliances will take about just about anybody these days as long as you follow the rules and don’t go grabbing allies or suiciding.

This is an admirable situation. I also use the same name every reset. People do learn who you are, and they learn to avoid you if it costs too much to try to landgrab you. Some alliances even learn to avoid doing the retal because it costs so much and they can never get all the land back, and in most cases can't even get back a fourth of it.

if you don't plan on finishing top 50, or maybe even 100.

i think it's very possible to play an untag with a respectable finish.

as long as you can do some juicy retals, i'm sure people will sooner or later learn to back off on you.
