IMO the biggest problem with money in politics is that politicians are forced to essentially have two jobs: campaigning/fund raising and governing. And they are competing tasks, not really complementary.

Money should be completely divorced from politics in general and all campaigns should be funded by the jurisdiction holding the election with an even playing field for all. The current US system puts too much focus on the campaigning/fund raising side of things and not enough on proper governance, IMO.
