Are you guys aware that you probably have the worst mobile game in the world.

Your arch enemy from back in the day (Utopia) had made both a good app and a stable website with a similar user base.

How about you make a website that doesn't log the user out every 30 seconds. Like why... I know no websites that constantly log a user out purely because it's mobile.

I've never been logged out from mobile site. Maybe you forgot to switch back from your "private browsing" on iPhone. That would boot you out constantly.

When you have the backend set up its really easy to get a free css and update your site. My MC backend has been the same for years and yet its apperance has changed 5 or so times with little effort. You don't need to reinvent the wheel. grab a nice css and change the colors. Link the tables etc with correct IDs and poof... updated css code that easy Lol

Actually, part of the annoyance of this codebase is that the presentation layer isn't abstracted from the game logic and it's a bunch of spaghetti code :p

Part of that is us not being as strong of developers when we worked on it as we are today and part of it was trying to get things done quickly. Lots of design code copy+pasta along with weird one-offs that weren't using good patterns was done and that doesn't make it easy to swap out the design or apply things consistently.

Tossing a new skin and/or updating the styling to be more mobile-friendly doesn't help the underlying issues with the game UI or get us any closer to hitting the app/facebook market.

Some reworking of the UI using modern web technologies that can be used for desktop, mobile, app, facebook, whatever in with modular code that is scalable and easy to maintain. I've gotten a good chunk of the way through building things out but the entire backend needs to be updated to support a proper API. qz and I have chatted about this but he's been swamped with IRL stuff. I have been too :p

Also, the monetary element isn't really a huge driver for or against development. I'd like to give the UI a better treatment as that was one area I never really touched during the lifetime of the project.

But to answer the initial post, if you're playing in private browsing mode or your IP changes that would be the only reason you would be getting logged out. I've actually had people tell me they use the mobile site during killruns because it loads faster on slower connections for getting more hits in quicker so it's definitely something that works.

When you're playing on mobile, are you on wifi or cell network? Some cell networks change your IP frequently and in that case you're likely out of luck given our security policy, which restricts logins to a single IP to help prevent session stealing.

Pang could you tie the session token to an ip range instead of an exact ip? That could help prevent users who change IPs a lot due to networks or nodes or whatever? Isnt https w a token pretty secure? I dont really know but feel like it is and if someone can hack around that then GG anyway?

Most systems I work with professionally are https + a secure token. New stuff will use this system so if you're playing on your phone on the way to work and open up your phone to play on your office wifi, you're still connected. Inside an app it would persist indefinitely based on the app login. Also, Google + Facebook logins will be configured -- I've already POC'ed that out locally for other work.

The key blocker is getting the game API-ified properly. After that it's just rebuilding pages and consuming the API. I'm hoping it can be a fall/winter project for myself and whoever else on the team has time. I've been ramping up on taking my web knowledge to extend it to a single codebase that handles web + android/ios app code seamlessly. The API is effectively just cleanup of the codebase.
