I used to love Deathmetal, but lately its become pretty ghey. Now it's all about who can be more "extreme". What ever happened to proper studio mixing?!?!

I don't understand how people listen to death metal. I get how people listen to all other genres, even those I don't like. But as far as I can tell death metal is just loud noise.

Nice pondy, I used to be a huuge Dark Tranq fan. Saw them with Arch Enemy a while back, good times. Was huge into Melodic Death Metal in general.. Have seen At the Gates, DT, AE, Kalmah, and Amon Amarth live. :) I've recently became obsessed with groovy 'djent' metal however.. and some metalcore/deathcore.

My fave all-time metal band is probably still Agalloch though. Have never felt such an atmosphere like they can create.

it's mostly not about the singer screaming like cookie monster. It's more about the instrumentals in the background. (at least for me).
If you want something that's harder to listen to that's still music and not just drowning cats, do a youtube search for "Hocico" and listen to that. I will always give way to a metal band that focuses on sound quality over extremeness. I've always been more partial to Melodic metal bands (Carcass, Death, AE, At The gates, AA, The Haunted) and also to the more Accessible/Melodic "Black" metals.

Or of course, anything by Devin Townsend! Best metal performances ever. If you haven't seen him live, don't try and argue. If you have seen him live, please TRY and argue!
