@Zelow who do you think created evolution? God is the first scientist in all of existence. God is patient because he has nothing but time, he is ageless and cannot die. So allowing things to evolve on their own is of his doing. What would have been the point of creating this universe if he was to only allow it to live for day?

From a Christian worldview, they believe God provides the greatest freedom. It follows the notion that sin/bad habits/actions God tells us to avoid, will create in the long run habits/views/actions that consume an individual, put them in a situation they seemingly cant escape from or hinder them. So doing whatever on chooses, while that seems like ultimate freedom, has negative repercussions, whether they are identified or not, because one has more opportunity to run into lifes pitfalls. Following God, allows one to avoid the pitfalls in life and avoid those pitfalls in life that harm you in the long run, and allow you to circumvent the ills of the world, to some extent, because no way an individual is ever perfect.

For the evolution argument, evolution occurs within species all the time, a bird adapts to it environment and changes etc., but a bird is always a bird. I'd be interested to see science pinpoint a time when one species evolved into another species. However, the notion of instinct, pre-written data within a species DNA. How did a caterpiller "learn" or "evolve" into knowing how to build a cocoon, and then have the ability to nail the genetici metamorphosis to turn into a butterfly. Some of these questions I think of quite a bit. Also, when the theory of evolution was developed, what was known of molecular biology was poultry to what is known today. Cells were believed to be of utter simplicity and evolved into more complexity. Cells however carry the complexity of something far beyond original comprehension. To evolve to this status begs the question of how did this data become "self-learned" or "self-aware to learn". I think I am on a tangent now.

Lastly, to believe there is no God, takes the exact same amount of faith as the individual who believes in God. Agnostics have more of a reasonable argument to say "I am not sure" then those that are adamant a creator or higher power does not exist.

Well Stated on every account. It's like the person who says there is no such thing as truth, it's only a matter of somebodies individual perception. But in that same statement, a person who doesn't believe that truth exists discounts their own statement, because if no truth exists, then the statement that truth doesn't exist is only a perception. Therefore, they have not proven that truth doesn't exist, God IS the truth and so, therefore, he must exist. I believe that science and evolution are just as real as God, but he is the creator of all life so science and evolution are just two of his creations. We were not intended to remain the same, God meant for us to grow and here's the kicker (evolve) and so he created evolution. But riddle me this, why would you or I be given a chance to evolve better talents than those who lived two thousand years ago? Wouldn't that be giving an unfair advantage to pass Gods test and gain the kingdom? I don't think that God cares if you created an airplane or if you constructed an enormous building or if you built a space station. If you don't love and worship him and obey his laws then you have ultimately failed at life. I mean Jesus gave his life for other people, they laughed at him while he died for them because they couldn't see or believe what he knew. So evolution is just another way of describing time and changes. We change to reflect our environment to a degree and as always certain things are changeable like a person's actions, thoughts and beliefs, you could call this a transformation rather than evolution.

Evolution is a process of trial and error over millions of years. Its a simple, find the way or die off. We just see the survivors.

I never even suggested anything about your beliefs in a creator. I said religion is for lemmings as a throwback to the 2d lemmings sidescroller game where you play god and control a bunch of idiotic lemmings. ie. all earthly religions are, almost by definition, systems of control. Let's accept the idea that a creator of the universe is necessary (I don't think so, but let's!), that does not mean religions are not stupid especially when you can trace most of them back to people trying to find ways to control other people. If the bible is truly the word of god, then it should be immutable, why does it keep changing? Also, the meaning should be obvious to everyone, not open for subjective interpretation. Did god write it using google translate? Believe in a creator, hell, there are atheists that do (simulation theory), but if you think your religion is any more valid than the religion of people that believe in an illiterate merchant prophet, a flying spaghetti monster, or Zeus, then you are a lemming.

I'm a naturalistic pantheist (god is everything and nothing etc) but i do sympathize with more pessimistic philosophy like that of Jidda Krishnamurti. Although he's almost too disappointed, i align with those beliefs in conjunction with believing energy and matter are holy. Contrary to sin's point, I've found the unitarian church to be a rather fulfilling alternative. Agnostics have bake sales too. Derrick, when did Jesus encourage anybody to go on a violent crusade? When Judas betrayed him and lead the Romans into Gethsemane one of the disciples Peter drew his sword and cut one of them on the ear and Jesus told him to lay down his sword and let the Romans take him peacefully. You're blaming human tendencies to be violent on God and the son of God.

@Derrick one more thing is that Jesus was Galilean and he chose the Jewish people because they had been persecuted for thousands of years for their beliefs. But if you look at the location on the map, it was in the area where Europe, Africa, and middle east/Asia meet. This is where he could reach the most people. Because Jerusalem was already known as the holy land and many came to visit from far and many returned home to teach their people about God. Under Roman rule, the Jews were being persecuted yet again. Most recently they were persecuted during WW2. God is not racist, but he has a reason for being born to certain people.

I didn't blame god for the violent tendencies of man. I pretty clearly stated that i don't believe god is a fluffin dude. Its more a combination of energy and matter, and therefore is both blameless and entirely to blame as it is all of everything. I don't think some fluffin dude made some other fluffin dudes do some fluff and that's god. That's silly.
