It's tedious to navigate back into forum system after being redirected by an external link. It's also kinda bad practice to navigate users away from your forums :-P

NOW3P, hold the control key when you click a link. Most decent browsers like FF or Chrome will open the link in a new window.

I've mentioned this numerous times as something that I feel needs changing, but I get enough pushback on it that it's not worth it :p

I'm told there are a lot of others who don't like new windows opening... I guess our community doesn't align with typical web usability guidelines :)

At some point I'll just add it as an option in your forum profile... links in a new window or the same window. That's a pretty simple change conceptually... but I haven't looked at that code in a long time :p

That option exists in most browsers as well Pang. I think people should be able to open links in new tabs or windows on their own.

i open links to new window always, apparently some are too lazy to use right mouse button or they have apple's mouses with 1 button.

I know there's a browser option, as well as the right click option...it just irks me in that "this is really awesome, but not quite perfect yet" kinda way is all - I'm picky like that.

I think if we do bring in more of the "average" browser as the community continues to grow, little interface/usability things like that on a regular basis could lead to unnecessarily lost players. Even if it's a very small amount, every bit helps.

I like the personal profile idea. But who the heck likes navigating away from the site they're trying to browse to follow a link? I would like to meet these odd peoples, and study them in their natural habitat.

It's just the anal retentive QA guy in me that can't let it go. Shortcuts/work-arounds are fine...but nothing like the thing just working right.

I've tried drugging him, feeding him booze, even rufies.....no such luck.

Honestly, I'd be sad if it created a new window and would possibly create my own thread against you!

Middle click does tons of things in linux, and useful things in windows too, like scrolling


Middle-click paste of highlighted text in linux (well gnome anyway & probably KDE) is awesome!

If someone is using a browser old enough to have to worry about that, new windows popping up are the least of their problems :-P

The DTD/XHTML Strict thing is rather an issue, though.

I assumed if people are worried about not being able to middle click, then they're also probably using Internet Explorer 3.0 too! :))
