Trump is helped a lot by the division. These protests and his response to them makes his voters go to the polls. He only needs to convince about 25% of the vote-eligeble that he is worth voting for and that is what he is doing and has been doing from the start. Any attempt to be the president for all americans, as other presidents have tried to be in the past, would result in fewer votes from his core and a power over the republican party that is not as absolute.

I just said Trump has made the very strategic decision to make sure the divisions grow. He believes they are good for him and thats why he removes peaceful protesters to make a photoop with a bible outside a closed church. It's why he says he will order the military in against looters etc. The right only has to vote, which he is motivating them to do, while he banks on the left not bothering to vote. It will probably work, and I agree with Trump its his best course of action. The problem is for the american citizens who have created a system and elected leaders who have incentive to undermine public trust in government institutions, in each others, in media and in the rest of the world instead of working to fix problems and rebuild trust.
