I didn't know the shooter went through the proper channels to obtain the weapon used in the killing.

This law should stop future law breakers.

My thought process has always been if after Sandy Hook the laws never went in place, they most likely never will from a shooting event. That said, gun owners are incredibly safe with their guns in the states.

My guess is never also. Assault is a verb, any weapon can be used to assault. Handguns assault just as easy as rifles. Assault shotguns can be even worse in crowds at close range. If it is an unlawful law, then I am sure it will be overwritten once the political process starts again.
If it is lawful, I don't understand what the problem is.
