My apologies I had the attack sequence backwards up there. We first lost the bigger amount on the attack that failed. Then lost half that on the attack that succeeded.

Both attacks were made from the same person, within a minute of each other and no other attacks were made on my ally. The first attack failed, the second attack succeeded.
