North Africa, Central Africa and South Africa are totally different places.

Algeria is an old French colony, like Moroc or Tunisia.

I have another Nigerian friend i play soccer with, he told me all kinds of stories of him growing up there, its not all bad like the images we get here from the media, Nigeria has gems too, but as usual, the media only reports the ugly :(

From what I remember in geography class in high school:

Nigeria is in very densely populated area of Africa, it has well over a 100 million population. Not really a wasteland..
Also, the north is Islamic while the south is Christian which has led to a lot of violence.
And the former capital Lagos is one the largest African cities.

Well, that's all I know :P

Oh and Ive seen two Nigerian movies at a small film theater that shows films from allover the world, they have a thriving movie sector apparently.

Geez, and we all want to save the rain forest, right? We claim that these large companies cause these environmental disasters, yet it seems that it's the locals causing the damage in these images.

Personally, we (meaning so called first world countries) should just leave these folks to their own devices and when they kill themselves off through stupidity, we can occupy and clean up the land without any difficulties.
