Just saying the only warning I had of the first FS last set (yes LCN had TWO First strikes...) was a one line comment from an unnamed source telling me: "go red alert" with no explanation. I asked wtf and no response so figured it wasn't anything anymore, a few days later boom LCN FS. About as far from arranged as you can get, idk what Servant/Purp were saying internally but there it is.

It's kinda like how you produce less with fewer civs, makes sense that way. Also would lower desire for an early war if that's what people prefer. Idk

Ok, does ANYONE remember what happened last set? Nobody in rage would've given a fluff if we had good relations with sof, sol, md, laf, fluffin danger for all I care. This war was happening because of last set and nothing else at all. If you think sof told rage we need to kill lcn, 1) no fluff we are gonna FS them and 2) even if we weren't it's not like sof couldn't handle lcn on their own/with laf. Hell if we DIDNT declare on lcn, I'm fairly certain a good chunk of us would've made our own tag this set and taken matters into our own hands.

There. Found it on http://www.reddit.com/r/sportsbook, and didn't make it myself so I won't take credit for that. You won't see on the chart instances where the USA either ties or wins against Germany. Any scenario involving those outcomes = USA advances no matter what. Also you won't see ties on the Ghana/Portugal side either, because any scenario where Ghana/Portugal tie = USA advances no matter what. Lastly the boxes shaded white would mean the USA and Portugal are tied and a lottery/coin flip will be held by FIFA to decide which country advances. Yup, thats possible. The tiebreaking scenarios are this:

Points in 3 games
Goal Differential in 3 games
Goals Scored in 3 games
Points in games between teams tied
Goal Differential in games between teams tied
Goals scored in games between teams tied
Lottery/coin flip

Run through those and yeah, its possible to get down to a coin flip.

Anyways, USA USA USA USA USA USA USA
fluff everyone but MURICA

100% agree with cerb...the only way the Middle East will be peaceful is after enough nukes are dropped to irradiate the place bad enough that nothing will ever live there ever

Alternatively a dome over the place would work too. Hook up some cameras, and you've got a modern-day gladiator stadium.

maybe a country:country DR that lasts multiple days? sure you could then just rotate between multiple targets, but before landtrading was a thing I just did that anyways because I like grabbing. the difference between grabbing randos and chain-grabbing would then be basically nothing except the chain-grabbing would be on a schedule. no net benefit to organizing fluff

Over the last century, while we've fixed some problems, we've moved more and more to a government which actively takes away the liberty of it's citizens, under the guise of providing security.

Welcome to the club, thanks for seeing the light!

o.o Theres more of us? fluff guys. And yeah SAM_DANGER thanks, I still want to stick around to help the alliance out where I can. Haven't quit yet :P
And you're pretty much where I stand on what government should do. Too bad it seems a lot of people feel like they are owed something from the government just for existing (and then expect not to pay for it in the end, ie healthcare). Canadians can gloat all they want about free healthcare but at least for now Americans pay lower taxes. Just like simple conglomerates are usually less efficient than specialized businesses because they don't focus on their 'core competency', government being involved in every part of life means they don't focus on a core competency. Of course, that assumes that they're actually good at something :P

At the end of the day everyone should realize that 'theres no free lunch'. I'm sure most liberals mean well when they want social programs but just because you write something on a piece of paper it doesn't change the economics.

pretty sure assigning values like 1/2 to 1 -1 +1 -1 ... is not exactly ok, the series is ever only 1 or 0 and since it alternates it is technically divergent so when they use that result it goes down a path where anything they derive isnt really true.

plus i think someone posted a link but 1 + 2 + 3 + ... = -1/12 *plus infinity*. ignore the infinity part and you have your answer. basically the link said you could use a generating function using gauss' method for adding up a series of integers from 1 to n and apply the function over (-infinity, infinity). you get a parabola and the integral of the positive left side = integral of positive right side but it dips under the x-axis a bit for an area of -1/12. so the integral over [0,infinity) IS infinite, obviously, but slightly (-1/12) smaller than the integral of the generating function over (-infinity,0].

what I gather is that the series and -1/12 are related but not equal, as your intuition would expect.

Oh man. I lived in Singapore for 4 years (family's been there for 6 so far...) and nobody tips there for anything because 'it spoils the economy'. I'll tell you what it spoils: the fluffin service. I know I'll tip 10-25% depending on how bad or good the service is if I'm in the USA, and that's an easy way to tell someone they did a good job or they need to do better next time. But in SG, a lot of places suffer from fluffty service. I don't think the waiters there are any more or less suited for their job but people certainly respond to incentives. I know the chilis there allows tips (and kinda encourages it because of their 'reduced menu prices' - which seems silly cuz that fluff is expensive there) and I don't think I've had a fluffty waiter there. They are always smiling and if you frequent the place they'll remember you. Can't say the same for other restaurants there.
