Actually, I just found a FF plugin called 'Stylish'.
https://addons.mozilla.org/...US/firefox/addon/stylish/

You can download custom styles from http://userstyles.org/ and apply them to web pages you configure. I haven't tried this, but I imagine if you really want to change the look of the game, it can be done without waiting and minimal effort.

I don't know about IE, but FF (and pretty sure Chrome) have options to view alternate CSS on pages (View -> Page Style). I don't think it would be too difficult to make a secondary css which is easy for people to flip between.

It's not about the money (for me). I just don't like microsoft or apple.

Since I started running linux (almost 4 years ago), I've never had to:

Scan my computer for malware
Scan my computer viruses
Clean my registry for errors
Defrag my hard drive
Do a complete reinstall due to sluggish behavior
Reboot because of a locked up application
Pay $100+ for it
Pay more $$$ for virus detection/removal software

I'm not a huge gamer, so the fact that many games may not work isn't a problem. It's been getting progressively better over the years and many games will run on WINE.

I find applications are better written for a Linux desktop since it's not corporate fluff doing the thinking. It's made by real users.

I just compared the list to http://en.wikipedia.org/...tion_living_on_less_than_$2_per_day_2009.png (http://bit.ly/hyOSDj) and then looked at population density of those countries http://en.wikipedia.org/...by_population_density.svg

For the most part it seems that modernized countries with a medium-low population density work better than densely populated ones, until you look at central Europe. It seems that they are roughly at the same level of 'comfort' with much higher population densities. Then again, in contrast, most of Africa is moderately populated, yet they're the absolute worst for quality of life.

I tried to get a little more perspective (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resource_curse) though it was an interesting read (more of a scan really), it led me to think about debt.

I found this http://en.wikipedia.org/...ountries_by_external_debt

It seems that most of the least impoverished nations are the ones with the highest debt! As we can see with whats happening in the US right now, these levels of debt are unsustainable. I guess it boils down to government ethics and what they're willing to borrow to sustain a quality of life.

Our good fortune in western civilization is borrowed. Though we are smaller by population and richer in overall land, the decisions our governments have been making for the past 60ish years are starting to bite us in the ass. I dont know if thats 'better' than say problems China or India may have.

The initial Arch setup can be a little daunting, but you gain a whole new respect for the operating system and the people packaging it and other *nix distros. Once it's installed, it's really not bad. You can finely tune your upgrades (for instance I didnt upgrade to KDE 4.7 cause its buggy as hell). If this is for the machine you run the game on, you're much better off staying with an LTS version of Ubuntu, or even Debian (though debian stable is incredibly far behind main upstreams).

Last night when I searched this on google, the first thing google said was that it found no results, but there was quite a few pages it brought up (strange eh?). Now the only thing coming up is this post.

I think it's from the movie Freakzoid.

The sequence of keystrokes that triggers the bug in the Pinnacle chip responsible for turning Dexter Douglas into Freakazoid is "@=g3,8d\&fbb=-q/hk%fg", followed by DELETE. Also, on Dexter's keyboard, DELETE is in BACKSPACE's usual position and marked in a slanted lower-case font, which is typical of an Apple Computer keyboard for a later Apple II or a Macintosh.

I like my Arch/KDE 4.6.5 setup. I like KDE because of its aesthetic qualities. It's very customizable and has GUI front-ends to configure (pretty much) anything from your desktop. I personally like these types of bells and whistles, and the fancy compiz-like effects are nice as well (they're optional of course). I also prefer the look of Qt apps to GTK.

However, if you want really minimal, and customizable, and don't mind editing a fair bit of .conf files to get there, Openbox is light on resources. It requires more manual setup to get even a proper task bar (out of the box), but you have the freedom to install only what you need.

Another power-user option may be a tiling window manager like Awesome or Xmonad. These are not like windows-style window managers, they're kind of like a graphical implementation of the terminal multiplexer screen.

And how exactly does that work for newer players who don't know anyone? No, I think it would be more beneficial change the tone of things by everyone being able to know who everyone else is. You'll think twice before bullying someone if you're going to publicly label yourself a bully. If anyone has a problem with other's knowing what countries they're playing, then I think they've got something to hide.

Whats the matter? got something to hide?

I think this is a change that NEEDS to happen. All records of player's countries should be made public. People need to be held accountable for their actions and stop hiding. Too many bullies are ruining the game for players, especially in servers like FFA and Express where people are killed without provocation.

To everyone who's wondering why I brought this up, (good question):

I was just curious about something that I have a particular point of view on, and wanted to know know what other people's thought's and ideas on the subject were as well.

As it turns out, what some thought was a 'touchy subject' or 'stirring the pot' wasn't that big of a deal after all. It seems more players support admins playing than not, and thats cool. I respect that. As a matter of fact it's even swayed me to think about things a little differently. I'm still not entirely convinced it's a great idea for them to be playing, but on the other hand, there is no real reason they shouldn't. I do trust them (as I said, I am not trying to point any fingers or make baseless accusations).

The people who are pro-admin brought up some really good points, and the people against it are (mostly) for the same reasons as my own. It's nice to see some mods/devs in on the discussion too, you guys made really good points as well.

(PS TY Jager, you pretty much hit the nail on the head, this was not intended to be a flame-fest, and yes it was definitely about the 'possibility' rather than anything actually going on)

Speaker, those are external sites to the game. Granted people who develop the game have developed these sites as well, but they are using information available to anybody with an API code. You, or anyone for that matter (who plans to develop a site, bot or even app) can request a code, then format and do with the data as they please. You're missing my point.

I am not trying to imply any admins are in fact cheating, I simply think theres an ethical barrier being crossed. It's the fact that the possibility of cheating even exists due to actual players having access to sensitive information that could in turn give them (and/or the alliance they're in) an upper hand.

EDIT:

dagga, it may be a touchy subject, but I am bringing it up anyways.

Even without a frame (which could also be done with a div box), a summary of all changes that happened (at the bottom of all your turn results) would be helpful.

I don't think it would be that obvious in some ways.. It's probably pretty easy to get a list of everyone in a clan with all their breaks listed right there. Also, adding extra military units, food or oil is a trivial task when you can login to a database.

how closely is it watched? I highly doubt qz spends his spare time reading mysql logs :P.

The last thing I want this thread to turn into is any kind of finger-pointing and/or baseless accusations. I ask this purely cause I'm curious if people even care or think about this stuff like I do.

Do you think game admins (with database access to your country's information without ops, or the ability to change/modify country attributes) should be playing the game at all?

I'd like to think that if any game admins are even playing that they wouldn't abuse this power, however the fact remains that it is entirely possible.

I think it would be more beneficial to the game as a whole to charge people money for extra points. I'm not going to speculate how that could be calculated, but in exchange for helping the game financially, players should get something and I think bonus points are a good mechanism for that.
