All discussions on where the convoy was headed, if Gaza is a state or not etc, is of littel interest.
Israel borded ships, sailing under other countrys flags (the only country that is allowed to intervene in international waters, is the country of wich the ship sails under) in International waters, had the Israeli navy (or army/airforce, i havet seen any sources on what unit acctualy carried out the boarding, but thats a minor fact only of interest to military geeks like me) boarded the ships in their territorial area, it would be different, but they decided to preempt.
Can you arrest someone for intent ? yes, in your own country , you can, but with this, they are faced with inter-country laws/international laws, then again, the Israeli military is not known for NOT pulling stuff they aret supposed to, just look at all the assasinations mossad pulled off in past (even disregard the last big one), one of the cases i renmber best, is from Norway (because im Norwegian :P ) under the winter olympics in 1973, where they executed a innocent man (a waiter) on the street, because they thought he was Ali Hassan Salameh, but im getting sidetracked.
Israel broke _several_ other countrys sovereignty, by boarding them, in _international_ waters.
Israel is claiming selfdefense, this is void , because they left their own territorial waters, to go out and meet this fleet, head on. (what happened on the ships, is another mather, but Israel, is the aggressor)
Epic fail from their PR advisors, had they atleast waited for the fleet to enter Israeli territorial waters, alot of people wouldt react like they do.
They may have won the battel, but they just lost the war.
