Been trying to think about this since the post. Some comments below, without trying to be negative, just throwing some things out there.
1) I like the matching idea.
2) I like the balancing aspect of it with the points
3) I would initially not touch the gameplay. It will probably also save you a lot of time. Let people use their killing skills from back in the day by running their well known strats. To me, the new system might scare people off initially.
4) Part of the reason why I am not a fan of the points system is that it needs to be fast paced to work. So 7 days may be too long but that can be adapted as we go along
5) For the FS I would make a voting system during sign up. most votes wins.
6) Restarts should get some encouragement
7) Kill shots to be rewarded with bonus instead of a bonus during the build phase? Again, for me the focus should be on killing, not on anything else.
