back to predicting the t5:

"Apple a day/So Close/Infectious/Queenie/Big Testicles"

is a stellar guess by Bobby. I wouldn't have placed infectious in the t5 a week or two ago, but whoever plays it is a monster and is in very good shape.

I'd say herbs is closest. There are 3 commies - I wish I could say 4:( - and 4-5 reps who are likely to t10. The commies will not take the win and are unlikely to t5.

There are a few demos and a few dicts that are wildcards, but are unlikely to break the t5 which should be mostly repubs.

the mover to watch is virgin. I believe he is the only contender with res and o allies. So he has a strong advantage. Though was set back a bit today by the monster hit he ate.

DEAR, THE MIGHTY CLAN [DANGER]!

I UNDERSTAND YOUR PERTURBATION WITH THE CURRENT STATE OF RETALIATORY POLICIES REGARDING RIGHTEOUS DEFENSE. HOWEVER, I BELIEVE THAT YOUR CURRENT DECISION TO GIVE VARYING LEVELS OF RIGHTEOUS DEFENSE DIFFERENT LEVELS OF IMPORTANCE BASED ON WHIMSY LACKING A CERTAIN POLITICAL DEBONAIR THAT I HAVE COME TO EXPECT FROM YOU.

I HEREBY REQUEST THAT YOU ADD A DIVINE HAPPY HOUR WHEREUPON YOU AVAIL YOURSELF CERTAIN RIGHTS AT A DISCOUNT PRICE BETWEEN 2-3 ON SUNDAYS THROUGH THURSDAYS.

I BELIEVE THIS WILL HAVE THE DOUBLE EFFECT(AFFECT?) OF BOTH ADDING SPICE TO THE RICE OF LIFE, AND ALSO LEAD TO A MORE BROADLY APPLIED AND ACCEPTED POLICY OF UTTERLY RIGHTEOUS DEFENSE.

ALSO, WHY NO PHRASE THAT PAYS THIS SET?

Yes. The cashers will take this one. I don't think any commies will be particularly close. Though you can't blame it all on strat. For a military market as thin as this one it boggles my mind that military prices are so persistently low.

The Cloaked Game profile

under promise and over deliver - it's a common sales technique. When you want a repeat buyer you promise little and then look like a hero when all is said and done. It's the exact opposite of a used car salesman who would 'churn and burn.'

Look at the chretien liberal years. It was all doom and gloom until election time rolls around and suddenly the books are balanced, unemployment numbers are revised down, and everything is sunshine and lollipops.

In this case the feds originally pitched a sale with a price tag of $9B for 65 jets. It ultimately will work out to $45B for 65 jets. It doesn't matter if the $9B number is still technically right, it's all in perception. Even look at your own argument. You too have been oversold on the F35. A boost to the Canadian aerospace industry? Canadian owned companies have secured about a half billion in contracts - roughly 1% of Canada's expected cost, or roughly 0.02% of the entire program's estimated final price tag. Not exactly a huge benefit for the Canadian economy.

That this is perceived as a sole sourced and not really subject to the procurement process of a normal $45B contract is just ammo for their opponents.

What I'm trying to say is the feds set themselves up to look like fools on this one, even if they made what may ultimately have been the correct choice.

http://fullcomment.nationalpost.com/...5802000000-in-new-report/

KPMG estimates the lifetime cost will be apprx $45B over 42 years. As opposed to DND's estimate which are $24B over 20 years.

The article points out that both are assuming the same purchase price. As well, I doubt that anyone at DND didn't expect that they would last more then 20 years. The CF18s will have been in use for about 40 years when we start receiving f35s.

A lot of the problem was that the procurement was not put up for competition(we just agreed to buy whatever the americans went with) and the government overpromised when they should've been more cautious.

another problem is that we don't have another lined up, it's back to the drawing board. Which means starting all over with the sourcing and buying.

Right now the canadian armed forces is flying f18a/bs that have a retirement date of 2020.

When the aussies and the us navy scaled back their orders a few years back they announced the purchase of f18c/ds//superhornets right away.

Well one big surprising similarity between now and 10 years ago when there were 10k+ people playing 1b is that I find the skill level of the top 50 or so is fairly similar. Just with everything being more civilized there's way less chance involved.

Well, by that measure sharing ops and joint kill runs are the only things banned. If I had an ally who was being farmed and I decided to farm the farmer then by that measure I should be totally fine.

Sounds fair to me.

Though truth be told, this server is suprisingly civilized. I can't really tell if it's a good thing or a bad thing yet.

I don't get this. I understand this is a solo server, but if you wanna make it truly solo, then get rid of allies entirely.

As long as there are allies in this game then the rules need to be in writing, or else they need not exist.

If you boost your NW via military today then tomorrow you'll have the double issue of having techs too low and paying disproportionate expenses vs your income.

Iunno if this is really two commies pulling away. I'm logging in to a lower rank now then a week ago. If anything what we're seeing is the tech start players are starting to move up in the ranks.

Personally, I can't believe how civilized everything is. I had totally expected to be in an AB slugfest with someone at this point.

Not to comment on Big Ben who I know nothing about. But his acreage appears to be a testament to

a)How bad some landgrabbers/traders are(he almost always came out heavily on top-that's what she said).

and

b)that you were gifted a number of retals by other PDMers.

dear inouda,

I clearly don't believe that anyone's GDP will be $400,000,000,000 USD/capita/annum in 100 years.

I was simply pointing out that martian is either trolling or is bad at math.

umm. If China grows at 20%/year doesnt that mean 82 million times its current number? Or that per capita gdp in china in 100 years will be approximately $400 Billion/per capita/per year?

similarly if the US continues growing at the optimistic pace of 3%/year then in a hundred years the US per capita GDP would be 1.25M.

------------------------------

Just sticking with per capita numbers

so with 20% growth/year in 100 years china's per capita gdp would be:

$400,000,000,000

vs

USs current per capita gdp which is apprx

$65,000

One difference is that the Hobbit has much less character development and growth. It is a very plot driven story.

That said, two movies I could see. 3 movies? I'll see em all, but I don't think it'll work that well.

My copies of the books the Hobbit is 399 pages and LotR is 1160 pages. Though in LotR they cut out about half of the 3rd book.

ottawa's a classy place. Good people, plenty to do. Living costs can be a little better then in Toronto, though not much.

The weather is the same there, if not a little worse in the winter, as Toronto though. Regarding Humber, google tells me it's about 5kms north of Pearson Airport(Toronto Intl). Which means you are not really in downtown Toronto but in the Toronto sprawl. I am only passingly familiar with Toronto(been drunk there a couplea times), but that means you're probably a good 30-40 minute drive from downtown. Actual locals might be able to tell you more.

if you want to live a nice place in Canada though, move to BC. I have no idea what you study, but once you spend a few months here it won't matter:)

meh. I'm not sure why you posted this. If you wanted to insult the people who beat you then this is really falling on deaf ears.

if you wanted pity, then you have it from some. But your problems are both obvious and avoidable. All you needed was some small measure of competence and/or pragmatism and/or balls and this wouldn't have happened.

Worst case scenario you could've atleast gone to war with LaF or Evo. An FS of a few hundred ABs probably would've earned you a little respect and a few DNHs.

Holy smokes. Yall are getting to technical for this lowly peon. To put it out there, Alberta's per capita GDP is almost double Ontario's. So while Ontario's economy is still double the size of Alberta's, it's insincere to claim that the rest of Canada doesn't matter.

Similarly, it is widely reported that Ontario is calculated through equalization as a have not province and has since fiscal 2010/11. What that means to us? Probably that some politician somewhere is plotting to spend our tax dollars on something dumb.

Anyways, McGuinty needs to wait until after Justin Trudeau crashes and burns before looking to before a fed politician. If he becomes one right now the liberal party will do just as poorly as it did under the weenie french guy, but be far less principled.

It's odd, when I was really into this game I led a small alliance back when 1a had 10-15k countries. Back then I hated the big boys because they farmed us with impunity as well. Weird to be one of the bad guys now.

But, nowadays you have even more trouble. The game is much smaller, the average player is way better, and politics has much less margin for error.

In my opinion starting an alliance now from scratch is somewhere between ridiculous and impossible. So difficult that it isn't even worth trying.

It's also not like building yourselves up in another alliance is unheard of. I guarantee you that I would rather have been a founding member of SoF - who started their first set with a list of NAPs and 55 or so members. Then say, a founding member of Hero.

They need one in BC. But won't hold it till they get curbstomped by the NDP next year come voting time.

Though to be fair, the BC Liberals have no affiliation to the feds and are much more closely aligned with the fed conservatives.

hmm, I wanted to throw a few things out there:

in terms of your federal government about 70% of their expenditures(greater then total revenues) is spent on medicare/medicaid/social security/military/interest.

in terms of welfare recipients it depends how you count it but a few searches on google came up with the 1.7% of americans recieve more then 50% of their income from the government. Not exactly crippling figures.

one of the biggest issues is that everyone is so split. Not only can you not find solutions to your problems, but no one can even seem to agree on what the problems are.
