it isn't the wild west. but it might be a little more interesting if it were.

and the rules aren't stuck. the rules are whatever the strongest side deems them to be. if a powerful enough group decided 1:1 was the way again then it could be 1:1 tomorrow.

in the same way that imag could conceivably make it their policy to go 5:1 l:l and allow for cross country retals to unpacted alliances. of course they're probably gonna get smashed a lot for it. but in the grand scheme of things it's likely only laf or md or a coalition are large enough right now to actually come out ahead(not win, plenty of people would curbstomp imag, but better off then if they avoided the war in the first place) when tangling up with imag.

meh, I don't get the big deal. an unpacted member of another alliance took your land. he did it to retaliate for the actions of a member of your tag. if you don't like it, then farm him or his tag. or, kill off their tag entirely.

it's not really rocket science here.

What kind of an antisocial tool needs an animal as a best friend? Seriously, you know who my best friends are? Humans.

oh, all sarcasm aside. I live in a smallish city on an island(Victoria BC), but we have about a dozen local brewers. I really only drink their stuff and I really doubt much makes it off the island. I'd rather pay more and support guys that employ friends of mine and spend their profits in town then drink the same carbonated yellow stuff that fills all those other cans. On top of that, I drink enough beer that I get sick of brands and types fast and the local bastards are always coming up with new stuff. But molson or blue or kokanee is about the same now that it was 10 years ago when I was a piss poor student and micro brews were illegal.

might i ask where this misspent youth was (canada?), and what the gun to your head choice of beer would be now?

to be fair, I think I grew up online. According to my country name I've been playing Earth for longer then I've not been playing earth.

though I'm a proper hipster nowadays. Cat Pee> All mass produced beer. It needs to be micro brewed from a recipe found from the inside of a german monk's tomb from the 14th century and include an ingredient only found on a danish hillside or the anus of a pangolin.

just because something you consider abhorrent is allowed it doesn't mean that things other people consider abhorrent should be allowed.

sof started :http://wiki.earthempires.com/...100_Players_Oct_99_Game_A

they first had their own tag in the test server in the summer of 99 when mehul first introduced the theo.

SOL, LaF, and Omega all predate SoF. And by a fair bit. The wiki has top 100 players as far back as Nov 1998 which is before my time and before tagging was a thing. But you will clearly see TIE, LaF, and SOL countries in the top 100. Though if Omega was only in its 4th set by summer of 99 then TIE/SOL/LaF all predate it.

either way, you guys are old.

from what I understand not only were people in other vehicles able to avoid her car, but she was outside the car helping the ducklings when the guy plowed into her. also, the guy who plowed into her had time to gesture about the car to his wife who was in a motorcycle next to him.

very quebecer of him. he was able to complain about something before he was able to save his own life.

she is culpable, cause the accident wouldn't have happened had she not stopped. but the guy driving the motorcycle obviously had time to avoid her and didn't. when you are driving, especially in a deathtrap like a motorcycle on a highway with your daughter you should pay attention to the road.

so much stupid.

ah well. It's your call. There's an old saying about arguing on the internet and the special olympics.

If you would like to prove us all wrong then run that CI in any server that people play. I've played a CI dozens of times. It's is by far and away my favourite strat to play, especially in Primary where it is competitive(though generally a casher is better).

But you will be stomped, and hard.

Good luck!

celphi. I believe you have a few issues. you don't understand server dynamics at all. you don't understand technology, production, governments, organized warfare. I believe you got beat by a CI on a war and want to blame the strategy rather then your poor play.

please know that we were all new once. that's not a crime. if you want to learn to play well the best way to do so is to join an alliance and to take their advice.

but I did some basic math just to show you how crap an indy is. Ignore costs(which you don't understand). Let's just look at basic netgaining. Or the ability to gain networth per acre of various strategies.

so first, commie indy:

so the math behind their netgaining is. 1.8 turrets/acre. x1.85 assuming good tech and commie bonus(150% tech+35% commie) x50k acres x83.3 turns/day. 13890000 turrets x $150(per turret price) = $2.08b /1.1(original loss when converting to cash) /1.1(loss when converting to bushels) = $1.69B/day

a republic casher with comparable tech will produce about $40m/turn or $3.13B/day after market costs.

even a dict farmer will outproduce a commie on a strict acre to acre. a dict with 50k farms and almost full tech should produce 5.3 bushels/acre x2.2(tech) x83.3 turns/day x$38/bushel= $1.85 B/day.

The Cloaked Game profile

Member

um. the majority of networth is in military. military requires upkeep.

http://www.earthempires.com/ffa/26/ranks

the winning country last set had $1,129,573,936 networth. His expenses on that networth are $1.5b cash/turn. $1.5B cash is about 6m NW for a 0mb theo. If he ran a day of turns with that kind of networth he would lose $450m+ NW in expenses.

On tag servers we store our networth in bushels and sit those bushels on the market at non saleable prices. As the end of the reset approaches on tag servers the players all change governments, sell their bushels, then buy military.

So the winner in alliance last reset went from 20m NW to 300+m NW in a week.

The best players generally play alliance. I often consider FFA and Express chump servers. Tourney has an active player base that can be counted on my fingers and toes. Primary is competitive, but there you will find 40-60 players capable of finishing t10 whereas in alliance there are probably 150-200. If you would like to learn the strategies and math behind the game you can find the best at http://www.lafamiglia.org

I'm considered a lazy-can't finish-blase netter in LaF but I still have spreadsheets that can calculate most of what I do. I think the destocking spreadsheet has around 40 variables.

????

Celphi's main argument seems to be that the dict government is crap at solo netting and crap at solo war. that sounds about right. it is crap at both.

she seems to think that is a balancing issue. But this game is balanced around it's two main servers, primary and alliance.

Most of the top 10 on alliance last set(including the winner) were Dicts most of the reset. Dicts also run the best pure spy countries. Conversely Commies are widely considered the crappiest and most useless government/strategy(as commies are pigeonholed into Indies) on alliance.

it's why topfeeding doesn't work on this server.

even a mediocre player will always be able to retal. and you will never come out ahead vs bottomfeeding.

mmm, I find buyouts as legit as any other strat. I use my tag so I can carry 50k acres on 2m turrets. you use your tag to manipulate the market for you. six of one, half dozen of the other.

I don't remember it happening since I joined laf mostly because people either find it inefficient or don't care if people know if we send FA.

just to nitpick; 2m tech at 9999 should've only brought you around $77m nw if destocked as a demo(demo destocks at 260/1?). So if you were only gonna finish at a hundred you had more then 2m med tech bought out:)

my preference is simply to nerf land trading. Cut ghost acre gains by 50% and reduce further the dict bonus.

with bottomfeeding so heavily nerfed, trading will remain the most viable strat for a serious netter. But the difference between it, bottomfeeding, and all-ex will be less extreme.

also it will weed out the marginal traders. with half gains trading will not be forgiving for players that don't pick targets/match nw/strat/etc.

The Cloaked Game profile

landtrading is ridiculously easy though.

i half-a**ed it this set with a suboptimal gov't/strat for it then quit early and will easily have my best finish in a decade.

if there were awards for the top 5 I'd say that we should give all 5 to eug.

landtrading is ridiculous.

TGA actually had an escalating policy I think. Unless you were NAP or higher you got a 4:1 when I first started I think. It was something crazy. though land:land didn't exist back then. I remember retalling 100 acre grabs for 8k acres and not fearing a RoR.

it was a crazy time.

I don't get any of the whining.

If you feel they don't deserve and can't defend the land then by all means take it. if you don't like how they retaliate to seize their land then retal on their retals.

Live by the sword, die by the sword. Anyone RoRing on a large country this deep into the set will promptly be destroyed though by the large country's alliance.

I don't know how you can't call it land trading if you are basically 0 defense, give the other alliance your country number and strategy, and message each other before and after with hitting order so both sides gain from every grab.

We also allow mulligans on DHs and offer TPs so we can see military without spying.

-there are 50k acre countries out there with a quarter million turrets.-

It's basically a giant tree hugging circle jerk.
