I have bought myself two ships so far, one Orion 315p and a Freelancer. But I will try to resist anything more. The Freelancer I only got so that I could fly together with my wife, she will be the gunner in the rear turret. (she promised to try!)

I have been looking into guilds lately but when I asked on the forum for a good one I got sooo many responses that I couldnt be bothered to chose one. I might do that choice a bit closer to release as well.

Colonel Chaos: I really do think you can play this game quite casually, I only intend to play it an hour here or there whenI can fit it in. Long gone are the days when I could sit and play a large number of hours a day or week. Just sounds like lots of fun to me to fly around and find new worlds and trade and so forth. :-)

Yeah really crazy, but they have some 310k people that has already signed up for the game and backing it. This is going to be massive from day1. I say by end of today they will be at $31million. Probably $32million by end of the week.

Hey All!

Long time since I've been here posting much of anything but I am a bit curious if anyone in the earth community has been considering playing Star Citizen when it is done?

I signed up a long time ago in the kickstarter campaign for this game and it has gone huge lengths since then all on community backing. Looks to be a pretty huge game, I will be playing it so if anyone from here is going to do the same feel free to drop me a line. :-)

Some info on the game can be found here if anyone is interested:

The encryption method produces a hash key (based on a mathematical formula) and the way that the system knows if you entered the correct password or not is it applies the same formula to your entered password and sees if it generates a hash key. The hash table (which is the table of encrypted passwords) is done in such a way that at least to anyone's knowledge there is no way to mathematically reverse the hash keys back into a password. However if you know the encryption method used (which certain people in RD would have known since they had the boxcar code) and the hash table, it is possible to do a "dictionary search" which contains the hash keys for common passwords.
So if you used a common password or an english word, then yeah they could have gotton your password. If you used some jumble of letters or a bunch of words strung together then no, the only way is brute force or use of methodologies/equipment beyond what anyone in this game would be able to access for this purpose.

There are encryption methods which prevent this kind of attack (ie to save people from themselves) so that even with the hash table a dictionary lookup like I described above would be useless.

Thanks Martian, that should be ok for me in that case, I tend never to have silly passwords that exist in any dictionary. I remember the good ole days when I hacked some UNIX password files and it was stupidly easy when someone used a "normal" word found in a dictionary.

To be honest if anyone does anything IRL then just shut the game down. Its not worth it if that even is a remote possibility.

Hi Pang,

Is there any way we could find out what password we had before they were all changed?

I have been out of contact with this game for a longer period of time and am only really back due to the email about the password change and I cant remember what I had it set to before. Depending on what my password was I might want to go switching passwords elsewhere just to be on the safe side.

I do not like random teams, the reason I would play in a team is to play with the people I like. There are many people on this server or other servers that I would hate to play with. If there is a random team generation I will simply not play.

A suggestion for how to change team server to work better:
Allow a team to "Declare war" against another team. Unless you are "at war" with another team do not allow anyone to do GS/BR/AB or shoot missiles. Once you are at war you enable these attack types and at the same time lower the explore rate, LG rate from SS/PS and also lower a few other things like cashing and teching points per turn etc. The lower rates are simply to stop two teams from declaring war with one another and then stopping any other teams from killing them. Meaning only allow two teams to be at war, if others try to declare war on the same team simply do not allow it.

A war will then end with a "victor" being assigned once all original countries has been killed. The victor can then get a point against the team for having killed another team. Then some war-like teams cna try and gather as many points per reset as possible and hopefully have fun doing so.

I think those billboards are quite accurate myself, but as pointed out by otheres in this thread they could probably be worded even better.

There are so many things to poke holes at when it comes to Religion that this Atheist group must have had a hard time chosing what to say. :-)

GO ATHEISM!

That's a lot of "Lets assume..." in there ZEN. Personally I am not a huge fan of that. Wouldn't it be nicer to actually know stuff instead of making assumptions and trust in faith?

Wouldn't your life be a lot easier if most the questions were not answered with "God did it"?

This is generally what Science is all about, curious people asking themselves "how did that happen" and "why is X doing this" and so on. There are so many answers out there and so much cool stuff to figure out. I have a great love for that myself and take great pleasure in seeing humanity figuring out these things. :-)

But like you, I will also accept you believe in god and if that makes you happy then all the better. I will still always ask questions though and promote secularism, science and fairness wherever I can. :-)

Yep, thats fine by me, I dont expect any special benefits from not believing in fairytales and as long as you are ok with it the other way around then thats all good.

If there is a cross on your church property then by all means put up a giant cross or an easter bunny statue or whatever you want. On public property keep it off and lets call it "neutral ground" where no one gets preferential treatment to show off their specific brand of religion. I won't put up any giant signs of the Flying Spagetthi monster and you wont put up your cross or whatnot. Its pretty easy really, you dont have any benefits and I dont have any benefits and everyone lives on happily (in theory at least).

Currently I think me putting up a billboard promoting Atheism will cause much more of an outrage than a xtian cross in any event. Or at least that is what the news leads me to believe (in America that is, in Sweden where I am from noone would care one bit). :-)

Nah braden, to be honest I quite like an honest conversation with religous people and I frequently have these. I dont have a problem with people having a religion believe it or not, I just have a problem when any religion has an impact on other peoples lives that want nothing to do with it.

Pray and have faith as much as you want, just keep it out of public schools and dont give anyone any special benefits from believing in a specific brand of fairytales over another. If thats all sorted then Im good with it. And any day someone comes and says to you that you are not allowed to believe in whatever god or gods you want to then I will stand right next to you and protest that you should be allowed to do believe whatever you want.

Of course on these forums its fun to be a but blunt about it to promote some fun discussions. I do admit that I like seeing the (to me) irrational arguments of the religious. :-)

Here are a few samples of what is in that lovely book, and that's just the stuff in the New Testament, the old one is magnitudes worse.

What you said is indeed not to do with being rational, what you need there is just a good dose of education on what is already proven. Your problem can be fixed if you just open your mind to other possibilities than the dogma of religion.

You see, the religious people -- most of them -- really think this planet is an experiment. That's what their beliefs come down to. Some god or other is always fixing and poking, messing around with tradesmen's wives, giving tablets on mountains, commanding you to mutilate your children, telling people what words they can say and what words they can't say, making people feel guilty about enjoying themselves, and like that. Why can't the gods leave well enough alone? All this intervention speaks of incompetence. If God didn't want Lot's wife to look back, why didn't he make her obedient, so she'd do what her husband told her? Or if he hadn't made Lot such a fluffhead, maybe she would've listened to him more. If God is omnipotent and omniscient, why didn't he start the universe out in the first place so it would come out the way he wants? Why's he constantly repairing and complaining? No, there's one thing the Bible makes clear: The biblical God is a sloppy manufacturer. He's not good at design, he's not good at execution. He'd be out of business if there was any competition. [Sol Hadden in Carl Sagan's Contact (New York: Pocket Books, 1985), p. 285.]

On the open weekend beta thing I only had time to test out two classes, I managed to play the Monk and the Witch Doctor, both were pretty cool. Although I have to admit the Barbarian looked like lots of fun too.

It looked hilarious when you were bashing zombies (or whatever they were) out in the graveyards and bits of stone from the graves were flying all over the place.

Demon Hunter looked a bit boring but Im sure theyll tweak it a bit too so it will get there. At the moment I have no idea what I will be playing but its leaning towards a Monk I think.

Of course if you have access to the database and some skills in knowing how to abuse such information, you can easily play the market and get huge NW advantages for yourself and any friends you tell just by knowing how much stuff is on market at what exact prices, how easily you can do a buyout and much more. I know some of that is public from the API feeds anyway but with direct queries in the DB its so much easier to do. In my mind it puts into question all the LAF top NW finishes ever since this cheating started (whenever that was).

Thanks martian, its nice to know that there is at least something on the drawing board. I am really quite annoyed that I am not able to play on a server that we peacefully played on for such a long period of time and all because some people decided it was fun to be total douches on the whole server.

I of course realise that you have other important things to do first and thats fine by me, just as long as something gets done about this server eventually. :-)
