[quote poster=Xinhuan; 30315; 564079]I'm not sure the argument of whether it is "sportsmanlike" is even a good one.

[Example A: Market-spy undercut]
Take for example, I market spied Serp to see what he priced his final resell units at, with the full intent to undercut him. Which I did. Now, is this a sportsmanlike behavior? By undercutting him, I made my finish slightly better, and his finish slightly worse. Would you do the same thing?

[Example B: Blid-oldman]
Is this similar or different from stealing cash from a player that you know deliberately dropped to zero spies to better your finish and make his worse?

[Example C: Classic topfeed]
Is this similar or different from topfeeding a player to make your finish better, and his worse?

How would you rate whether it is sportsmanlike in each example?
[/quote]

Disclaimers - My opinion remains solely mine. I am not asking for anyone to agree with me.

In example A, you are using information you gained from your op to better your finish while hoping to lower your opponent's without physically hurting your opponent i.e. spend turns to steal/raze/destroy etc. Going back to my analogy on a running race - you found out that your opponent bought a good pair of running shoes. So you went out and bought a better one. It's generally accepted in this case.

I explained example B in my previous post.

I don't know why you even brought up example C. Topfeeding is generally frowned upon anyway. You yourself even said that topfeeding doesn't benefit your own country in any way most of the time. So I don't see how this example is valid here. It is annoying and of course unsportsmanlike. I will actually go as far as saying it's stupid.

Again, I would like to reiterate that nobody is right or wrong. I have my own standards and so do you. My standards are right to myself and yours are right to yourself.

well, nobody is truly right or wrong. I just thought it was unsportsmanlike. And you, of course, are entitled to your own opinion. I didn't recall my food and put them up for sale before my 40 hour log out, so it was dumb of me. If I had done that, the most I would have lost is maybe $500m cash. I could live with that vs a 5M nw reward for having no spies.

I was sloppy this set, real sloppy (in every sense). If I had placed my food on the market, none of this would have happened. My explanation will be an analogy, but if you think otherwise, it's fine. We can agree to disagree. I don't hold any grudges (unless you are h2o =P but that was only for a set heh).

We're all running a race and whoever runs fastest wins. I dropped my 1.5M spies with about 7-800 turns left in the set to save myself about $1.5b worth of expenses (it's an extra 5M nw, so why not? It would have been fine if I had placed my food properly on the market. Risk vs reward is tilting towards the rewards side). That is akin to equipping myself with better shoes so I can run a faster race, hoping to place myself in the top3 (I knew it was a farmer/techer set and casher had no chance to win). Doing that only bettered my finish and hurt absolutely nobody. Your thieving is akin to a fellow runner tripping me deliberately. You did it because you saw I had better shoes and I was going to beat you, so you stuck out your leg to trip me over so you could overtake me. I wouldn't have done what you did because I thought it was unsportsmanlike.

Also, I doubt our countries were equal prior to what you did despite your claims. I was going to finish with about 108m NW if you add back all that I've remaining and lost.

I lost a total of 32M bushels and $190M to you. I lost about $210M to #317. That is a total of 5.8M nw. You caused another 1.65M nw loss via dissension and air base bombing. The nuke of 2700 acres took out about 600k from my finishing NW. I was driving when the game ended. Had 70M bushels and $1.34B on hand and 2 remaining turns which I would have spent on 70% tax PCI booms (~$400M). Had a nearly full PM which I could have spent the money on. So my finishing NW would have been about 83.5M + 16M (stocks left) + 8.05M (lost) = 108M

Not my best set. I reckoned I could have finished north of 120M if I tried a bit harder. Was in China and India for 3+ weeks through the set so I lost at least 10-14 days of bonuses which is substantial (~40 pci booms).

I'm not sure if anyone asked as I didn't go through everyone's post but what happens if the enemy's defence is 0. You then send 1 troop/jet/tank to break. How many percent of relative hit strength is that? Is that 0? 100? infinity?

This market bullfluff doesn't happen in Primary, because goods take a very long time to reach the market, and is thus more likely to be undercut - people price low because they don't want to waste 3 turns to recall and put it back on the market, out of only 56 turns a day.

Why do you think I still have Express server on boycott after 2 years?

yes, food decays at 0.1% of what you have on hand every turn. So at 238M bushels, you were losing 238k/turn to decay. That more or less offsets the 300k you generate every turn.

The best player right now will be the person who has won alliance, primary, express, team, tournament and FFA with different strategies in each server. I don't think such a person exists. So there's no best player.

However, there's a select group of players who can play every strategy and pull them off successfully no matter the server. Many of the people mentioned in this thread are capable of that. So there's no best player, just a bunch of awesome players.

of course i'm sure! =/

there's still a min like in LGing....

this doesn't make sense still...if returns on a special attack is tied to the attacker's and defender's NW, then an attacker less than 10x smaller than the defender shouldn't be able to take out 2000 buildings (3% of defender's land) in a single special attack.

so when will the admins start revealing who these 'new members' are?

I think it's lame for us to be able to post under different aliases in this new forum system. Man up and use your original handle.

We have a WahWahWah on this thread, a Yippie on the other one, a JAYR watcher too etc

Anyway back to topic...so LaF has lost 7-8 people now to these suicides...all these while the rest of the game remains unharmed. The fact remains that it wasn't LaF alone who're farming these untaggeds (not this set, not any other sets). Many other alliances were also involved. We may have the most hits on them, but that's cuz there're lots of news camper around in LaF but other alliances are also equally guilty of this. I see this whole argument that LaF farms them the most, so they should get suicided ridiculous. If we are not the ones farming then, someone else would have, I guarantee you that. The fundamental cause is the lack of land in this server. So unless everyone sits down and signs pact with each other stating that members should only explore for their land, this problem is not going to change.

Just food for thoughts...

#825 is #752's restart.
#752's is #661's restart.

#661 is an original country. He started out hitting LaF 35x. So where is this thing about him being farmed by LaF and then him retaliating with suicide runs?

I don't know if #661''s owner ran another country prior to #661 though and I've no way of telling that.

PS: out of that 9mil NW on a 60KA country how much is tech??? o yea more then half of the NW probably so now maybe you get my point.

if you haven't read through everything, don't assume.
1st of all, there was no complaint (at least from the owner of the country). the suicider started this thread to gloat.
2nd, there was indeed an MMR and it was being followed. If you bother to look a bit deeper which I assumed you didn't since you didn't even bother to read, you would realize even having 1M tanks will not be enough. The suicider has a big tech base (mind you, he's a 3rd or 4th restart but still holds a large amount of tech) so he could easily get up to 1M tanks if he wanted.
3rd, if you bothered looking at the country's history, he wasn't on 9M nw before the ABs. The ABs took out 55k buildings, so nothing's strange about having just 9M nw on a parking lot.

Seems like there's been quite a discussion while I was sleeping.

Jayr joined LaF but was booted even before he could start cuz there were shady things going on with him. #825 or I'm assuming E2025's country, is a actually a restart of 752 who got killed after BRing me for 20k buildings about a week ago. And he is the restart of #661 who ABed candyman earlier in the reset.

So you have2 people with a grudge. I'm not complaining. You probably haven't seen anything like this from me the whole thread. But it disgusts me when ppl start thinking suiciding is justified and glorified. Grieving should never be justified no matter the reason.

I didn't get <quote>LOADS of FA<unquote>. So technically SG is right.

I got a single FA package that set from ingle, who incidentally sent a similarly sized package to eugene.

well, to be fair, the 5 day old country is a restart, so he had >80% of his old country's military/tech/buildings to start with. If he died with 1m jets on hand, he restarts with 750k on hand and in 5 days can easily double that and suicide on just about all the traders in the game right now.
