It's usually played through your browser. Most people type the numbers in on their number keypad, I assume, although some might use the numbers at the top of the keyboard instead. That's usually the first action in playing the game.
Then, you gotta build some buildings, most people start with construction sites because it's hard to build houses and businesses without them.
Then, you start building your nation, by exploration, until that can't get you enough land, then you take it from other nations, hopefully ones in your scores list, or you join one of the big alliances and spend your days looking for tiny little countries that you can grab land from without the fear of being able to be successfully attacked in return. Otherwise known as the most respectable of players around here. Those that a grazing on the newbies, called "bottom-feeders", such an elegant term for what these players do.
But, you could also play the way you like to play, and more than likely they'll kill you for it, but if you are having fun, it doesn't matter that much in the end. :)
