Why do some countries begin with 140 acres, others with 120 acres, and the rest with 100 acres?

Does this have something to do with where they place in their respective previous games?

I suspect it is the daily bonus of 20 acres that is making a difference.

If you log in about one minute after the round starts you get a bonus of 20 acres. You get another 20 acres every day at 00:00. I guess if you don't log in for the first 24 hours you would not receive the first land bonus and would start with less land.
