Why is this case blown up so big ? There`s wars in the world, hunger, farmine, lack of medicine and proper health care kills people by the thousands daily. We have countrys in the world were there`s a genocide going on as you are reading this.

While Praetor has a point, there's nothing so far to suggest that our community has a connection to other instances of torture/rape/murder/totalitarianism (in more than government types)/violent rampage, so it's unsurprising that this event is so big on these forums. Plus, what we're looking at mainly is "national" news, whereas (I would hope) international media covers this in competition with things like the Brazilian floods, the Queensland floods, the collapse of the Lebanese coalition government, etc. At least, that's my understanding of international media via the BBC, which has a special American version that puts emphasis on American stories but still manages to bring in the international stories that should probably take precedence in the big picture.

And that article was disturbing. VERY disturbing.

NOW3P, very nice statistics. However, seeing as how I'm also an American, I fail to see how those stats are relevant. I wasn't being derogatory towards Americans, I was only stating a fact about a very prevalent stereotype.

It's always just irked me that the stereotype exists overall, as it's very contrary to reality. USAID, for example, has multiple projects in just about every developing and conflict nation on the planet (at least those that let us in...and a few that didn't want to)

The U.S press enjoys putting as much emphasis on any kind of gaming as it can. Usually to directly pass the blame of the actions, or leave us to construct that thought in our minds where a link isn't as concrete. Unfortunately, we're no Halo, CoD, or Grand Theft Auto.. sorry to disappoint, but the most our game could hold blame for is if we became elected public figures and over taxed the population to keep food consumption low. :P

I'll be honest, other than the website links posted on this forum, I haven't found a reference to this game in the media (granted, the last time I watched the BBC it was almost muted during this story because my mother was on the phone). Usually the focus is on either political rhetoric or gun control.

Also, could someone tell me whether or not USAID is a government agency before I put my foot in my mouth about government money not necessarily going where its people would prefer it to go? I've heard plenty of times from the people around me that "America shouldn't be spending taxpayer money on foreign countries that will never get better when its own people go starving in the streets;" I don't know if the USAID stats above fall into the "taxpayer dollar" category or not.

not sure, but i think that anything that ends in .gov is a US government site. think it's kinda reserved for them. and since it's winter, i don't think the homeless are starving in the streets since they're not allowed to kick them out of the airports.

USAID is a congressionally funded entity. They are paid through the Congressional budget...so yes, government entity.

I won't go into why the statement of "Why should we send taxpayer money overseas?" just irks the living fluff outta me, as y'all probably don't wanna hear it anyways :-P
