So I was thinking today what would be really cool would be if we had a completely impartial third party that would just drop the bomb at some given point in the round and start the war by posting that it was go time on the AT. We could give them some parameters, like 6 - 10 weeks in to the set, between these playing times, etc.

I'll do it if you want admin involvement...

I can generate a random integer which would correspond to a timestamp inside the window you want and then make a post at that time

you need to believe that I'm impartial though, so that's a drawback for some :p

edit:
or are you looking for someone impartial to pick a good time... like a Saturday afternoon or something, rather than a randomized 4:45 AM on a Tuesday? :p

that is an awesome idea! Could we even set up a forum bot explicitly for this purpose, so there is zero third party involvement?

how about we set up a bot to FS another bot when a 3rd party bot says "it's go time"? :)

I think totally random is best. That's the only way we can make this war fun IMO. If you did it, I wouldn't want other admins to be able to see what you did. That's the only thing I'd be concerned about. I wouldn't care how you did it. You can throw a dart at a calender for all I care. heh I just want to put some surprise in to this war.

Pang wouldnt hit the calendar. His dart throwing skills are surely lacking due to his gangly nerd arms he must have as a game admin.

I guess I should say the only thing we would want to stipulate as a group would probably be the range of dates that would be avaiable. If the bot randomly picked day 1 that would suck. As a group I'm hoping all parties can pick a range like week 6 to week 10, etc.

thats a pretty fluffin sweet idea, actually. a randomized bot would be the only trustworthy way as someone would always have doubt as to whether the third party tipped anyone off, intentionally or accidentally through conversation with a friend of a friend thats involved.

it would certainly even things out significantly as noone would know when they need to be prepared (turns wise) and could certainly give the underdog a better shot.

no im talking about playing your turns and then logging onto AT an hour later to see the call has been made haha. obviously you would have to put in some type of time frame (week3,4,5,etc) so you know when to be done with teching and begin war prep. but a lot of people could get thier pants caught down that way.

even if only one person knows the FS time ahead of time and they are a completely neutral third party, that doesn't seem fair to me as they could price certains techs/oil/etc. based on their knowledge that nobody else has. IMO randomized bot that can access forums on its own and post message. I mean you nerds made bots that could play the game, I'm sure we can get a bot to do this...

even if the numbers were even on both sides, the war would be favoured toward sof, as they are one entity.

Not just the 1 entity, but fighting 3 netting clans is going to end up with more inactives and fewer people restarting than SoF, which is all about warring :P

Indeed anoniem/thomas, the numbers would have to be favorable to SOFs opposition, we were thinking somewhere in the 120% range.

Very cool idea.

I also hate planned 'friendly' wars.... this would make it more interesting.

Maybe add in a planned stop time... either say 5 days from start time, or a random time in a 4-8 day window.

Bobby: My point has everything to do with this thread. I think that warring one entity is a lot harder when your team is a 'fragmented' group, so having a random FS time would make it twice as hard for the opposition of SoF.

There's no need to dismiss my point of view when you haven't even thought it out.

This sounds neat. I think I would like to volunteer if you are interested.

As for my impartiality. I haven't actively played more then 3 weeks in the last year. And I haven't involved in the games politics since shortly before EE started up. And I generally don't have a history fluffing people over (except for the 1 incident of pact breaking I was part of in 1a).

I see now reason why the three alliances can't share a war chat, or even a boxcar site. Omega has done so with other alliances many times over the years.

you all ready have a third group that would work great,
and would add all sorts of randomness, if you would stop trying to suppress them,

about half of this server is UnTagged,
instead of trying to take away any chance that they have, I suggest that you try to embrace them!!!

Helmet,

I'd be all for the random. Give maybe a 2 week period for it to happen, at a set time, say 8pm server time or something*still don't know what game time is now* and each day, the alliances logging in to see if it's go time!

I already assume 90% of SOF will be on with a months notice of war date. Hitting a ton of online SOF'ers durring a FS is gonna get old:P

Yeah, that's my problem with it. It's just going to be stonewalling like crazy. Why have a set time like 8pm? I think you just go totally random other than a time frame for the DAY that it starts. I don't see it as a negative if both sides have to scramble. That would be exciting.

No a day is even too narrow, even i can take a day off work if i know there will be war at some point in it...

give the week say week 3, feb 25 - march 4 have have RNG do work in there.
