There are so many ways to get on IRC it's not even funny. If you are blocked behind a firewall, you can try non-standard ports like 6999, the web client *should* be able to get through if you can get to the web. If not, there are a number of things we can do (open up another non-standard port maybe) which would allow you to get through.

There is no excuse 'I can't get on IRC', as there are always ways to get on IRC. Maybe you just don't know 'how' yet.

@General Earl: actually where I work there are only a very limited number of ways (without hacking anything and remaining attached to the company network) that I can get on IRC and they are either not something that the network admin really appreciate me doing or things that would involve a lot of effort:P
So no, it's not always as simple as using a non-standard port..
