The rate of use for defending military should be a lot less than what the rate of use for attacking is..

But if troops can't attack without oil, how can tanks defend without it?

I've been a long time proponent of this. If someone runs out of oil just have their military effectiveness cut to 50 or 70%.

tanks "stand" still and use cannon to shoot.

Why do they need to use oil? They don't go anywhere, they're staying at their own country.

doubt tanks or turrets get much lubed between shots.

Why do troops need oil?

Why can you have 7 mil troops on one acre of land?

Some things in this game don't make complete sense - but tanks/turrets/troops would need oil to maintain themselves over time.

I think now a barrel supports what, 25 units on offense?

Perhaps on defense, a barrel would suport maybe 250 units - because alot less would be needed (they don't do alot of work while defending, but still use some)

depends on where you have to ship your troops out to defend.. look at Canada for example... say most of our military was in the more eastern parts of the country, but there was an invasion in British Columbia.. how much oil is it going to take to send a few thousand troops, jets and tanks 5000 miles? It's probably not cheap :P.

I think its an interesting idea... But what happens if you dont have sufficient oil? I guess you'd have a massive readiness loss.

military effectiveness decrease from the lack of oil, I'd assume.

This would be a minor change that would effect how the game is played quite a bit.

Thus, I like it.

Rather than dredge up some old thread, I'll post my thoughts

Military consumes 1/5 the oil to defend as to attack
If you have no oil your military is only 70% as effective.
You never use more oil than twice the defense needed to stop an attack (its not like a defense would only allot exactly as much oil to defend as needed, but a small lemming force certainly does not warrant a complete oil expenditure).

canada's oil usage would be zero cause canada would use cavalry. :P
