If the title you put here is different than your business card you're trumping it up. haha

I can only speak for myself, but I started playing in college when my job was making student ID's and setting up conference rooms. I had a LOT of free time when I was at my "work/study" job.

Everyone here started playing when they were in high school or college (I don't have that excuse). Take a random sampling of any high school group that finds a math based game fun, and see where they are 15 years later.

Its part of what makes the game so great, so cutthroat, and hard hard to grow:)

I agree with Brink, Servant, and others and think that, on consideration, the results are pretty predictable -- this tends to be a "higher IQ" kind of group. What I found interesting is that, for the most part, it didn't seem like a wealthy group.

My conclusion is that "smart" does not imply money. (At least in the world we live in.)

I started in high school... but Math based WTF... what happens here is common sens not (algebra based more the like) and since i play it only in alliance server i'm entitled to say i play it for the people i play with... 1 day, while drinking :))), i do that every once in a while i found myself missing them and started searching so... here i am coping with both my RL and earth which i hope will never die :P... it's a lot of fun even though i hate some people in it but hey, that is part of life... you can't love everyone :p

In 1997 there were three desktops in the department geology lab that I was in charge of. I had a lot of free time and they had the rare and sacred 'T1' connections. Mehul got his hooks in me then and here I still am. Today I travel 80-100 nights a year to some pretty godforsaken parts of the country, EE is cheaper than titty bars and more fulfilling.

Just like Tisya.....I am here to pick up boys.

Wait, I mean girls. I watched this movie one time....it was called "Earth Girls are Easy" starring the amazing and diverse "Jeff Goldblum" and he pretty much tells you directly that this is the only way to have face sex. Or something like that.

But yes....I agree with Alex. Being intelligent has little to do with being wealthy. There are a few break out talents like Billy "The Badass" Gates or Stevie "The Gonzo" Jobs.

But even intelligence is subjective....you have a bunch of Asian scientists in a room doing Lord knows what all day every and driving home in their Kia to reside in their 2 bedroom 900 SQ. FT apartment.

Where as you got "Johnny Be Douchey" who sells crap for a billion dollar business every day and makes a fortune but majored in block puzzles who missed 2 on his final exam (1. Being square block into round hole).....

So who is the intelligent one? The guy finding a cure for some disease but living like a welfare candidate or the guy selling you advertisements living on beach front property?

Then let's take it one step further. Does Kim Ling even care that he doesn't make any money? Is self worth measured by income?

I myself say hookers are pretty much at the top of the social Echelon because they get to travel, lay on their back at work, never have to drive anywhere, make their own hours...etc. Which is why as a society we look down on them. Or lay down on them.

Breasts.

Marco - you really shouldn't take it to heart. You are lucky that you even enjoy your job.

PP is still a student and chances are he will line him self up in a career that he hates. Or a company that he hates. Or co-workers that he hates. He still has dreams and goals. The world hasn't crushed him yet.

So enjoy it knowing that you are part of the 10% of people who actually like their job.

boltar: I actually understated my situation somewhat :P But I simply stated the truth in terms of my job. It suits me personally and lets me do something I enjoy and get paid (while still allowing me to do the things I want in life) as is the case for plenty of people here. IT's not about who has the "better" job. If you do something you enjoy or enables you to enjoy life that's really all the matters. In the end all we have are our life experiences anyway.

But why do/did I play this game? Because I enjoy chatting with the player base for the most part. Also I started playing when I was a student:P I don't see how what your do for a living should deter you from playing an online game (although some jobs would restrict how many hours you could put in).

ps. I don't slander tradespeople, tow truck drivers, or people who work in the service industry ever and treat them with respect (unless they do something to deserve otherwise). I do have a beef with dishonest business people, but that's not specific to any one industry/profession...

I think you just spurned 90% of big business.

I actually told one of my clients last week the following:

"It is hard to do honest business, when you compete against dishonest companies"

Now understand that I have known him for more than a decade, so I can get away with saying these things. Normally I don't bad mouth competition just on principle, but it does get frustrating at times.

Heh what though? Of all the games out there, this one is the one so many of us seem to stick to; maybe it's because of when we joined, or the community, or other reasons; but next to all the big blockbusters &etc, I feel I get more out of this than the rest, on a per-time basis; Civ 5 i was playing recently, but I play through it once and feel like I'm wasting my life... here, maybe i'm wasting time, but i'm actually talking with people, improving some math & programming skills, and having just as much fun; and learning things... like tax law from martian! heh...

I told the truth in the occupation thread :P

I agree with what has already been said. Most of us started playing this game in high school (or earlier), and the nature of the game tends to draw in people with certain attributes e.g. tech people and those interested in politics/social sciences.

Hence why most people that play this game now work in software/web development or some kind of social science role.
