Have to say that this was one of the best first episodes I have seen in awhile.

Zane cracked me up the entire time. His alliances, followed by the plan of telling them to vote him out when he wanted to stay, followed by quoting Talledaga Nights at the end with the "If you aint first your last." I laughed so hard when he actually got voted out.

The guy who fell in the fire was also pretty damn funny with all of his flesh wounds... what a klutz! :P

I wasn't very happy when Jeff Kent almost took himself out two seconds in since I wanted to watch him play but he lasted episode one alright so maybe it isn't so bad...

Oh and Angie? DAMNNNNNNNNNNNNN. I love how they pick their cast :P

I want Penner to win but it looks grim for him right now.

I found it quite funny when Malcom I think his name is said that he needs to avoid falling into Angie's sex trap and still fell in.. she would be tough to avoid on an island though I suppose.

I do not think it is staged in any meaningful way. The cast selection is managed to fit a certain profile or flavour but I doubt that is enough to label the show 'staged'. It would not be running after 25 seasons nor would it be more popular than other reality shows if it were staged. Of the 400~ contestants many still comment on the episodes and maintain a public presence in the survivor online world. None have said anything to indicate the production is staged in the manner you insinuate.

That all said, sucks that the best eye candy Angie is gone but now maybe they'll show more of the people in the red/yellow tribes. I'd hate to think that the small character depth of the losing blue tribe is the most compelling of the 3. There are some good characters and players in the other tribes that have only been covered briefly. Some from the other tribe have not even been given screen time yet.
