I doubt it will happen... we use alpha to test every change before it goes live. If everyone has access to that server, our countries will keep getting killed while we're doing stuff, screwing up the test.

A few of the people who used to be staff members but aren't anymore lost their positions (at least in part) because they wouldn't behave on the alpha server.

they have this cool thing in express and primary called GDI where people cant kill you if you dont attack them more then 1 time. i cant be positive but i think there is a high probability that it might actually work on alpha server also.

Some things can't be tested from GDI. Some tests could be upset by even 1 lg. Other tests could be upset by someone else buying your goods off the market.

To effectively test, we need to be able to control all the variables.

speaking as someone who has had alpha access for years, you have RUINED the server. it used th be a TEST server. a server where you could test strats, help the developers test new code.etc

what is it now? country numbers in the 400s because assholes kill the server nightly. you an test for an hour, then you die. it is no longer a server that is was intended to be. changes have already been made, making 1000 turn batches the limit. you have ruined the server. i wish that you never would of been given access.

Do a seperate server(Beta) for the players to have fun and test strat. We also need our space to have different strats tested out to improve our game play.

And keep the current alpha server to be accessed only to the developers and staff members.

we have 6 servers to play and 1 of those allows us to have 16 countries so if you can't test strats on any of those then alpha wouldn't help you.

Marshal, in FFA, you have to wait for turns and you get killed OOP. Although in alpha people kill you too, at least the server allows you to test strat instantly with infinite turns and market goods.

If such a server existed, it would start you off in protection and keep you in protection until you choose to exit it. But it's a one-way thing -- once you leave, you're out!

That way you can test stuff inside a vacuum and interact with others too.

Heh, I'm glad it received the attention it did, as it was a good way to get people to test various things.

But I don't really see the purpose of having alpha open going forward.... we'd have to turn off the magic market... and make it so you can't kill admin/mod countries or something heh.... i dunno...

i think the problem is server load maybe. i cant imagine people batching 1000 turns like mad is good.

lookslike you want simulator (like disq's old sim) where to test strats not game.
