I might have done better than 8th if I hadn't lost 7957 acres to land grabs, and did 40 AB's (and a Nuke) on Nuclear Launch Detected

Another top ten almost half sleeping :)
less defined as days go by. Fading away well you might say I am losing the focus. Kinda drifting into the abstract in terms of how I see myself

Congratulations Hash. You have been knocking at the door for several sets and now you have the win.

Great work. :)

Enterprize NX01 and llamky are my other picks for a top spot at some point. Another nearly but not quite set for both of them I see.

Congrats also to Craterus on his best finish and to Eye m SeKsi on second spot.

AWESOME NAME.

Getafix, you read Laumer's bolo stuff only, or have you read other author's forays like Weber?

Thanks VicRattlehead.

I had a book in my scifi collection called Nine By Laumer (1967). It was one of my favourite books and I've read it many times. It contains 9 short stories. I just looked up the name of the story, it was "Dinochrome". The sentient robot warrior in this story comes to consciousness trapped in an engineering lab, hundreds of years after the war, and in a matter of milliseconds (the whole story is written in milliseconds of time), it takes over the facility, fuses a connection with a nearby nuclear power station and gets charged up, contacts its crippled Dinochrome brigade comrades, wipes out the enemy city and takes over the planet. One of the best stories I've ever read.

Some of Laumers other stuff can be pretty corny, like the Retief stories, but Nine by Laumer is a classic if you can find a copy. Check the Goodwill Stores around Moncton NB where my ex-wife lives, lol

I have the same book, and I love the bolo stories. I also have a book containing a co-authored story with Laumer and Gordon R fluffson called "Planet Run" that is fantastic.

I have a recommendation for you then.

http://www.amazon.com/...Weber-David/dp/143913314X

This has one story out of nine that I didn't really like, and the last two are awesome additions to the boloverse.

This one too: http://www.amazon.com/...=1-1&keywords=bolo%21

I hit up used book stores fairly often, and always check for more Laumer bolo stories.

I have read some David Weber but some of it seems to be pulp fiction and I can't put him up there with my favorites. I think "Dinochrome" was the original story behind the bolo idea.

I have read almost everything by Gordon R. fluffson. I don't remember the Planet Run book but it should be good. My previous country name in Express was "Dorsai" from the epic saga of the evolution of man by fluffson.

The other greats of military scifi are Heinlein (Starship Troopers won the Hugo award over Dorsai in around 1963), and of course Joe Haldeman (The Forever War, etc).

This year's Hugo and Nebula award winning Novel was called "Ancillary Justice" by Anne Leckie. It is an amazing tale of a Military AI and is a fantasic achievement by a new author, I highly recommend it. I named my Primary country "Justice of Toren" in its honour, and that's what got me started on the military scifi country name theme :)

You make no mention of Asimov and the Foundation trilogy (as it should have remained) and I Robot.

Come on now. Heinlein and Haldeman are competant writers. Asimov, however, is something rather more significant.

Yes Furious, Asimov is significant, but not in military scifi.

Getafix, I have messily devoured the majority of both Heinlein and haldeman. :) I am aware of Ancillary Justice and the Hugos - I am Facebook friends with Larry correia (whose work is entertaining as hell if a bit pulpy) - but have not yet read it.

The stories in the weber book I linked to are, IMO, a cut better as craft than most of his novels. The shorter form helps bypass a lot of nonsense.

If you love Heinlein and haldeman that much you should check out Michael z Williamson. Start with "freehold" or "the weapon" and go from there.

Furious - foundation was great. I will not acknowledge them past the third book though. The ones from the 80s never happened. My favorite Asimov novel is actually a stand alone called "the gods themselves," fantastic piece of scifi there.

I know right? He asked me in-game if I was getting old. :'(
He's probably right though, haha.

I couldn't retal EyE m SeKsi so I stole some of his money instead. I guess he didn't like that because when I signed back on again he had done it back several times, which I guess he didn't know that broke GDI.

So I happily exploited that, and well, I wonder if that effected his chances of getting #1.
