Unless you are in a wheelchair.... everyone should. Pretty much just a grouping of large hills.

i havnt hiked from NY to GA, but i have done a 200 mile VA to NC hike that took 2 weeks and was fun as fluff. I grew up camping in the NC sections of it. the blue ridge parkway is spectacular.

I go backpacking every summer in Colorado. Some of the trails I hit are just GPS trails and you basically have to find your own way! Love to hike :)

With that said I'd like to do that trail sometime in life. Would be impossible to do the entire trail as it is too long but I'd like to do the best parts of it :D

Personal preference. You need a passport to hike that one though I think.

NatGeo seems to think the AT is more rugged. Much of the Pacific Crest is graded for horseback making it easy hiking.

So "god" "created" cars so you could be lazy.

Baffeling.

Disregarding the disrespectful simplification of the invention and innovation of the car, the fact is that hiking is recreational anyways. Also, I thought god was infallible? If that is so he couldn't have been involved in the development of the car. If you want to be plausible maybe he gave mankind the intelligence to develop it themselves. That has been the church's excuse as to why science exists and the bible is so full of weird fluff we KNOW to be false. suppose everyone is entitled to their beliefs I suppose. And their laziness. Clearly the baby Jesus created the car so you could wiz by all the glory of his actual creation, the earth, at 80 mph without admiring it.

I did the Maine portion when I was 14 (I think). I haven't been back yet, but I would like to try to do the entire hike in one shot at some point before I'm 35. I hear it's quite the financial/logistical undertaking so I probably won't ever get to do it. You think I could use one of those crowd fund sites to get it done???

it is almost 2,200 miles. assuming an aggressive rate of 20 miles a day you are still looking at almost 4 months. it would be really impressive.

i think 46 days is the record though. that is like 47 miles a day...... no thanks lol

Like I said, huge logistical undertaking. From what I understand it's pretty easy going from Georgia to Tennessee. Most people can make good time there. You get up towards the Northeast and stuff gets steep and rocky. Even in my 20's I could only cover 15-20 miles a day on flat ground.

I have a good week on the AT in North Carolina a few years back.

The problem with the AT is that you spend all that effort to hike to the top of the mountain.... only to see the same damn pine trees that you saw at the bottom. :P

Thanks for the feedback. I'm 63 years old, but I read that a 74 year old woman and an 82 year old man completed the 2,100 mile trek. I think I can do a thru hike and it should take about 6 months. To do the south to north trek I'd need to leave in March. I'm not sure I can have all equipment and be in shape by then. I have been hiking 5 miles daily for months, but it's time I add a few miles to that.
