"At one time politics made the alliance, and at least when TOB and I was doing the politic thing very few things were done transparently like these days. Dirty deeds done dirt cheap..."

talking to some folk I don't think that things are done transparently even now. Mind you I don't really pay that close attention anymore. Certainly when I was still involved with SoF we were anything but transparent. I would say there was just as much cloak and dagger as with a netting tag only the end results tended to result in much more AT dynamics..:P

Dman of LCN belongs.

I would say Jofel belongs. He's had a number of top 10's in different era's.

But the one person that hasn't been mentioned, that may not be playing at the moment but had multiple top 5's just a year ago, and top 10's during the 90's

Son Goku
Z is #1

Deak... man he was good. It was always fun to talk about strats with him. Or his company... both were good topics and he approached them both with a winner attitude.

And Servant... dude, the only top 10 I belong in is in the top 10 for laziest players... or the one that has played the most hours while being stoned... I'm pretty sure I would be in the top 3 on that list.

But besides that... nah, I am no top netgainer. I just play my game, nothing more.

And good suggestion about Son Goku... he was quite the netgainer as well.

yah both samxz and son goku are amazing also.

btw one thing people forget about the historical era was that food usually went from $2 to $8 and ppl stocked over 2B of it but you can never have more than 2B at home at the same time.

u really needed to juggle your food correctly in order to place t10. one slip up or missed login and you are screwed. there was no market tools like we have today so market predictions were very instinctual (and sometimes very wrong).

we did take a lot of luck out of the equation now for netgaining, as long as you put in the time and know the proper techniques (and there are quite a bit) you can place well.

the luck factor is more or less reduced

Ruach. And he was the best in my book still.

I think a lot of what set things apart was creativity and adaptability - that's what made things interesting for the most part. After the standards are set it's just a matter of luck and time.

Guaranteed that if some of the old bad asses came back....for a practice set and then a real one, they would smash us. Ronnie got bored, otherwise I think he was the most gifted at this game.

Ronnie also cheated from most accounts. Though that's not saying he wasn't a bad player without it. Some others mentioned, i.e. Eduard (just bringing it up as he was mentioned here), were cheaters and would have been a bad player without it though.

Ronnie wouldnt have to fear the same as other netters from rd multies and I find it hard to believe he didnt take advantage of that personally.

if he had to cheat, he clearly felt that personally he was not the best, thus why he felt the need to cheat ;-)

7th Heaven is still one of the best I've ever seen. He plays a solid game, treats all players with respect, and that is part of the secret to his success. When he would landgrab someone, he would always send a message to them. This is a smart thing to do. It prevents suiciders from coming at you when the end of the reset approaches.

Servant - you need to include Bleach in there as well. Any time I netted in LCN (rarely) Clorox Stain Remover was generally always top 10. I still remember the grabbing TMBR he played one reset - damn that was a nice country... in tough netting conditions (at the time)

No, SS, he would send a polite message, that they were welcome to attempt to retal the hit, as much as they were welcome to landgrab from him if they were able to. He was a civilized player and that made him one of the best in the game.

Well, I never paid any attention to netgaining in the old days - I netted enough to build up some stock for warring and that was it.

The guys that got me interested in netting were when some of the SKA guys were slumming in other tags that I played in. Guys like TMac, Raheel, En4Cer, Dangerous Dan, etc. Most of them were strat specialist (who was a better farmer than DD?) and under the right market conditions they were all top 10 guys.

I also remember TMac running untagged a few times in the year or so pre-Jolt and scoring top 10s. Even in a watered down field (2007-ish) , an untagged T10 was pretty impressive.

One thing I think is different now is that the EE crew has really tweaked the game to allow different strats a viable chance nearly every set. 'Techer' or 'Casher' sets are much less pronounced now than in the old days.

I remmeber bleach, and yes he had a few countries,

but I also know that sometime after I left, there was the questions to his legetimacy in netgaining.

Which surpised me, based on convo's we'd had, I never would have thought that of him,

I never found out what happened, but I did my best to only include those that I knew were 100% legit clean

Jofel-multiple clean top 10's in multiple era's
Dman- the most underrated top netter ever. The tech bug reset he was going to blow everyone out of the water in record fashion for that time, when for some reason, he chose to play with the tech bug one turn, grrrrr

Son Goku- multiple top 10's in multiple ear's almost a guarnateed top 5 in this era everytime he can net. only bad timing in destocking has stopped him from multipled wins in the EE era.

LT, SS, samxz, trep, highrock, alicia all are great players too.

MM aka Manipulated Maniac aka psycho style was by far the best I ever played with he was around back in the 98-2001 era won 2a many times and won 1a as well. A lot of the 2a guys were really good but I don't remember their names.

In the middle era TMAC was by far the best that I knew he won 1a and was always in the top 10

Current I have no idea but with only 1000 players it seems like the best bottom feeders prosper

I'm really happy someone mentioned me I'm surprised anyone even remembers me nowadays.
