This thread reminds me of the old practice of running seperate tags for "training"or killteam and then cross retaling.

I remember MD did it a few times, genesis too with genkill.

LaFs had a bit of experience with that type of thing. ALC1, ALC2 & ALC3 for starters.

I'm not saying that we havint gained any new members from other alliances/people coming back that weren't in LaF before.

I'm saying that the members we are gaining from those avenues are only enough to counter balance the retirements we have every round or possibly even a little less.

Thus if that was the only way we were gaining members, our membership would be fairly flat or even have a 1 -3 member per reset decline. It is the half dozen or so old vets we hoodwink into coming back every reset that has keep us at a 2 - 4 country per reset growth rate over the last few rounds.

People do it all the time. You do not join a match on any first person shooter where the other team is full and your's only has two or three players. When that occurs, players often back out or just leave trying to find a different server where the teams are equally matched.

You can take 20 of the best players in this game and then pit them against 73 other countries and see how it turns out. Nine times out of ten, the side with nearly four times the amount of players is going to win. Skill has nothing to do with anything in a game based purely on mathematical equations. If all players from the 73 member alliance log on and participate in the warchat, then that is approximately 8700 turns. As opposed to the side with only 20, then they only have 2400. Mathematically, it is IMPOSSIBLE to win.

Sure there are more games to play that have prettier pictures or more novel concepts, but those are things that an invididual cannot do while they are at work/school away from the Xbox, PS3, WoW, etc. I primarily played from work prior to being on vacation because it is something to do to pass the time. Most individuals only need roughly 20 minutes to run their turns (or less). The bottom line of the game is this: it's not time consuming and it's fun. I don't have to sit here spending hours upon hours waiting on members of my raid party to figure out how to down a boss that has been downed four million times before-- been there, done that.

Numbers dont neccesarily mean fluff. I remember huge huge RAGE tags that went to war vs lean smaller tags and got eviscerated. If all you can do is complain about someone else's legitimate success then you probably should just join then because you aren't good enough to challenge them.

Well, enough kicking a dead horse. Just so long as the people who can actually implement the change realize it's a bad idea, I guess we can't expect everyone else to understand why it wouldn't work out....

TOM - it is, just with less people playing because of the neglect it suffered for the better part of the last decade. Some people just haven't figured that out yet, and need a bad guy to blame.

used to be 40 minute turns in 1A... over nearly a 3 month reset
Finally did the signature thing.
