I'm pretty sure the hands were not genetically encoded with a specific use. Perhaps mob was using his hand in such a way that he gains an evolutionary advantage over other members of the human tribe and several million years down the road hands will be a perfect fit for whatever mob was doing. Before you judge what mob was doing you should let evolution play out and see where we end up in a few thousand generations.
