There are lots of rules about soft cheeses that you can't buy in the US I heard.

I think you should just go to the shops and ask in a low key and try not to look like an inpector or a cop. :)

Also don't assume you can travel easily with a car within cities. You might wanna park it and travel on foot in combination with tram/metro/bus in some cities. Old cities were not built around the automobile and it is very much noticeable in more than a few of them.

Parking within cities can be hell on earth unless you are willing to pay a lot for it.

KoH: the banhoff is another great option. When I lived in Germany we used to ditch school and get around on that city to city. Though I see the moped comment, that would make sense. I wonder if they have hostels there still. I know people used to bike/backpack Euro or again the banhoff (train) option and stay in hostels. Not sure if Gerd knows what I am talking.
