There should be oil usage for all units every turn, just like food. It doesn't make sense that I have a million jets sitting at home for a few days before I start grabbing again and they are not at least flying training missions. Or warming up the engines. You can even tie in a reduction in oil usage to military tech, or make an oil tech. I think there is oil decay in the game when you have oil, but even with no oil I can still play.

Lack of oil shouldn't cause a panic like food shortages, you just lose a number of your military that uses oil (troops, jets, tanks) to mechanical problems each turn.

And yes, troops need to use oil too. It also doesn't make sense that my troops are walking and running to war.

On a turn by turn basis? That's the point I'm trying to make. Oil demand on a turn by turn basis. Troops need food on a turn by turn basis, they should need oil too to move about and stuff.

why would your unit do use oil if not used in attacking?
I have not heard a Jet that's consuming oil while not using engines.

Everyone has always liked this idea. But im sure this would cause oiler to weaken or become to powerful.

Everyone would have to build rigs to support there people which would weaken them.

But if everyone counts on the market for there oil would make oiler exteremly powerful that set. Between everyone being dependent on oiler. There would be wars which would only raise the price of oil and the dependency on it.

non-grabbers would buy few 10k/100k brls oil (depending how much troops etc use it when being standby) when its cheap.

If military units used oil on a upkeep basis every turn, how is that different from food? We don't need oil to become exactly like food, might as well just double the food upkeep (which was already done with the recent food upkeep fix).

Furthermore, if oil is required for upkeep, that would necessitate its addition to the private market for purchase.

LOL @Xinhuan. Oil is already on the private market.

On just one of the 6 servers. Not on any of the main servers.

Adding an oil usage per turn would actually bring a bit more stability to the oil market, I'm not a fan of the idea but it would make the oiler strat "less risky" having regular buyers.

everything xinhuan said is the reason I don't like making oil required for military units -- everytime we have this discussion I say the same thing; we don't want to make oil a clone of bushels :-/

there have been some cool ideas discussed around making you able to "burn oil" to regenerate your PM faster; that opens up some new strat ideas + changes destocking + makes oiler more viable

there's still so much to work out with such an idea that it hasn't gone too far.
