So I guess my amended question is "why do people still destock as a TMBR solely off the private market?"
-----------
Because it doesn't make a difference.

Suppose you have 20 days as TMBR, and you destock completely in 15 days completely off private. That leaves you with 5 to resell. But you can CHOOSE which of those 5 days to resell, for example, you could choose to destock off private between days 1-10, then resell days 11-15, then destock off private again from days 16-20.

Either way, you end up buying all the military in your private across all 20 days, so you want your reselling as a TMBR to be on the 5 most effective reselling days - when the military price is the highest, usually in the last 5 days.

If you choose to destock a portion off public, say you destock 13 days off private and 2 days worth on public, then you gained 2 extra days to resell, but that 2 extra days of resell is simply profiting off the 2 days of stuff you bought off the public in the first place when the price is low, because you still bought all 20 days of private.

In other words, its still 5 days of reselling if you jumped a portion off public, except that the 5 days where you purchased stuff to sell is the not same 5 days as when you actually resold them. Which is back to the "you can CHOOSE which 5 days to resell" thing.

That is, "destocking off private" and "reselling off private" is the same thing - You buy everything on your private, its just arguing semantics about whether it is considered jumping all of it off private or not.

by free do you mean getting topfed and RoR'ed numerous times and taking in 40+ missiles and almost getting killed? then yes, that's what i got this reset.

the kind of free land previous resets that i was talking about was of the free farming, free suicider, free L:L retals that don't get RoRed variety that Laf always gets.

I would go farther than just saying it depends on market conditions, to say the market conditions are created by the number of Theos vs the number of Demos.

If Demos became the large majority of destocking governments, the supply of cheap military would be divided amongst many more countries, thereby raising the price. Conversely, TMBR have the lowest priced private market units and reselling these gives a marginal rate of return, even to cover selling expenses, for those with limited stockpiles. By removing this supply of cheaper military, the overall market price would rise.

A good contrarian will tell you that it doesn't matter so much what you do so long as you do the opposite of what most people are doing wrong.

Does the public get down as low as the private? If buying off the private as a through is considerably cheaper via mil tech, their bonus and mil bases than what even a demo can pick up via no tax on public, then it seems self evident that a through destocking on private will come out in front, especially with reselling...

I make absolutely no claims to being a great netter - my high is something like 140M net and I only average 115-120M or so - but I sat down with a 10 foot white board that I filled with possibilities to try and determine the outcomes of TMBR vs DMBR. For my own country, my own stats, my own evaluations of the market, etc, I never found a situation where DMBR finished with more net than a TMBR.

So... to answer your question... people still stock with a TMBR because most of us still think that it'll finish better. It isn't because we aren't willing to consider the DMBR, it's because we don't consider it better.

Drow, buying off private is considerably cheaper - however, you are limited by the fact that private market only regenerates at a certain speed, you can only destock a certain amount of cash everyday off it. If this takes too long to destock a large amount of stock, it may simply be better to partial destock on public to end up with less destocking days - which means more stocking days for a potential higher finish.

The other thing is that converting to TMBR typically takes 3 days of turns, and a substantial amount of cash to do the convert, so again its not necessarily better.

As to whether "the public gets down as low as the private", that depends entirely on the number of countries that go TMBR. If everyone does it and tries to resell, the reselling profit margin drops and drops as every TMBR tries to undercut each other to the point its no longer viable to go TMBR.

i doubt destocking as DMBR or Demo pub or TMBR will be the reason why you win or lose this reset.
