I strongly support the right to bear arms.

I also support taking actions to suppress gun crimes (and crimes in general). President Obama has spoken about more aggressively investigating and prosecuting gun crimes; this will more effectively lower gun crime than banning high capacity magazines. President Obama has spoken about lowering the barriers of information and making sure that all the states are on the same page when it comes to who cannot buy a gun; this will more effectively lower gun crime than banning so-called assault weapons. President Obama has spoken about the need to improve mental health access and treatments; this will do more to improve society than going after guns.

President Obama has also spoken about banning high capacity magazines and assault weapons; I can only hope that he will also work to not let anyone's position harden into an all or nothing situation. This nation deserves better than all or nothing. There are things we can agree to do that will reduce gun crimes and improve society. These things generally revolve around better enforcing the laws that are already on the books, be it through legislative or administrative means.

So, has there been a mass shooting incident that has been prevented by someone else owning a gun?

i have had firearms, i have used firearms - i don't particularly miss not having a gun in a civil society where theres less threat of being shot ... catch my drift ...
i'm not in favour of getting rid of all firearms, but i would like to see a respect for them and their use that i do see in say Canada and other countries where guns are held by the general public

alcohol isnt meant to kill things but what express purpose does it serve? its FAR less useful then a gun is. youre wrong even if you dont think so.

there is no percent in which it would be acceptable to remove the rights of the people. none.

my understanding is that alcohol is a pretty decent germ killer. which is probably why they use it to clean things. i only use it for medicinal purposes.

I'd argue that alcohol in other forms is very useful and has more uses than guns. Just like a hunting rifle is more useful imo than a handgun or machine gun. Guns are made to kill things so when someone presents an argument that cars, drinks, baseball bats, or whatever else are comparable I simply disagree with their logic. I have seen some good arguments from gun enthusiasts but that is never one of them
