nobody knows that, it totally depends what players will do, if they attack (grab land, do special against others) alot then they will buy oil but if they don't then they won't be needing oil that much.

if some1 could predict market on any server he/she would have big advantage.

oil is always the same.. 50-100 in week 1-2, 100-200 in week 2-4, 200-500 in week 5-6, 200-300 in week 7-8.

SO THAT BRINGS ME TO A QUESTION...

LAST TIME I PLAYED COMMIE INDY (TWO RESETS AGO), I DECIDED TO DEDICATE ABOUT 10% OF MY LAND TO OIL RIGS. THE PREVIOUS RESET, OIL HAD BEEN CRAZY EXPENSIVE, AND I HAD BEEN SPENDING 1/3 TO 1/2 OF MY PRODUCTION EACH DAY JUST ON BUYING OIL. MADE IT PRETTY HARD TO KEEP TECH LEVELS UP.

DO THE EXPERT INDUSTRIALISTS (READ SERPENTOR) DO THIS? IT SEEMED TO WORK FAIRLY WELL TWO RESETS AGO. DIDN'T DO IT YET THIS RESET, AS OIL SEEMED EXTRA CHEAP, BUT JUST STARTED THINKING ABOUT IT TODAY.

It's better to try to stock some before hand for the expensive times, although you don't want to interfere with your tech buying... Also you don't know how long the >250$ oil will last, so its a gamble either way. If I can get along without rigs I would.

I personally don't assign 10% of my resets production to oil rigs.

If oil goes above $350, just keep rigs that you grab as rigs instead of rebuilding them. You should never build rigs as an Indy unless it goes above $700 or something like that, because the building cost + teardown + rebuild to indy cost is just way too high.

Funny I bought the last of the oil at 300 and no more was up to buy... I only got 120k of oil which is barrley a days grabbing.

Oil prices plunge when the techers start stocking. Basically, oil usually only stays high for about 2 weeks, which isn't enough to be worthwhile.

Also because usually nobody good is playing an 'oiler.' The Black Pearl was a good one a few sets back but usually you don't see them.

No, oil is still high in demand even when techers start stocking. The top players need alot of jets to break those that they have not hit yet before.

well here's the weird thing, a bunch was bought out at 395-399 like 20 hrs abo, but right now there's huge chunk and its only at 400.. sooo someone either didn't end up selling all that oil.. or only plan to make a few million dollars of profit.

The person who bought a bunch at 395-399 thinks that oil is gonna be 700-800 in the next few weeks, so he's buying the 'cheap' oil for future grabs.

This is why an oiler can never win. When millions of barrels of oil are being sold at $400 for days, some idiot will inevitably sell a chunk at almost half the price and crash the oil market.

Certainly stock some up early if you have the spare resources but drilling for your own is fine if prices start looking high. It can be extremely frustrating to have your grabbing plans interfered with because oil dries up on the market or prices reach astronomical proportions.

The notion that there is a one size fits all answer to this is as silly an idea as one size fits all usually is.
