To put it in real terms I would say don't buy anything unless you start dropping out of the top 30. Then buy your way back in. Something maybe like that.

My rule of thumb is pretty simple. If you are n-th in land size on the server, you shouldn't be too far from the n-th rank in NW. This makes you land average in size on the score page, rather than land fat, and be a less desirable PS target.

Ehh, I thought you had a better rule than that. I don't care how land thin a player is because I attack every player of a certain size. Didn't you have a better rule, something like, don't be less than 50% of the top player?

I always make it a point to check if my target is a techer if I'm still grabbing after day 30. If the target's a techer, I check how long they have been stocking. If they haven't been stocking, I will go for it. If they have been stocking, then I would think twice. If they have been stocking for a long time, I will probably think thrice =P

Exact same here. If I spy a country and it's a techer, I check eestats to see how long since they've stopped attacking. If the target seems safe, but they haven't attacked for awhile, they might not actually be safe to hit. You should move on or do a spy on market.

What the dell (#49) gained 3.8m NW from 14.5m NW to 18.2m NW. Since the purchased tech is only about 3.1m NW, he gained the remainder 700k NW from teching ~50 turns at 7k TPT = 350k more tech points.

That's not that much money. But what now? What will he do with it? The market is pretty shallow but it might be hard to sell at that tech at higher prices. strange...

now we all place tech at $4000 and hope he buys them out again =P

Tech was never that expensive this set, the prices just held up for a long time. Military prices never dropped that low to get a real primo jump off the public market either. Food was very good though, I imagine techers did alright playing the food market.

#29 should retal that jackass RR, that can't be a hard retal to make. Of course RR already got hit by 2 other retals today so he has a lot less land now than he did before.

Rep bonus is 20% right? So wouldn't you measure not in raw acre diff but by whether you have a 20% advantage? Bigger rep = 61,367; 61367 * 1.2 = 73,640... you're at 73,405 so basically I would expect your income to be the same if your tech percentages are equal. Dict will have bigger private market for destock.

Yep. I was in range, had plenty of stock, and had depleted my jets and tanks to lower expenses, getting ready to jump. Someone discovered this during the night and raped me. I have only played a couple primary rounds and had my best one going. Still can beat my personal best, but hate to let hits go without retal. However, at this point, I don't think it is worth it.

Reps have 20% income bonus. You gotta to have 20% more land at least. Youll have to consider more food consumption at that land too.

You can have 25% less military though, which kinda makes up for the "more food consumption at that land".

Not really.

You have 15% more land, so you run 15% more defenses. But because of Dict Bonus, you run 25% less units, so you still have 10% less units proportionately.

Well technically compared to a rep you could have 35% less military since rep has a -10% military strength. In theory this is the case. But based on experience:

- As a dict you'll need to buy more tech because of more land
- It takes longer to get the extra land (while a rep is stocking).. it's made worse by the build rate penalty for dicts and explore rate bonus for reps - takes a dict 169 extra turns to reach 100bpt and a few extra turns during startup phase to get the land you need exploring
- You end up making more/riskier grabs so you end up having to buy more jets to hit higher ranked guys and more defense to prevent retals (this is based on low # of players in primary)
