I was the one that got hit. And it was 4k acres I lost - you gained closer to 9k with ghost acres. Lucky most of my bushels were on the market. If you waited a little longer, you would have hit me when I had closer to 7b on hand

TNT, I wont make 100m. I wont even break 90m. NWs seem really low this set. I thought a techer would have broken 130-150. Perhaps the high bushel prices during stocking worked massively against them

Tech and oil held back a lot of people I think

I think what held most people back more than anything were the bushel prices. Buying for 55-60 and selling for 38-40 can relly hurt. Buying for 55 becomes 58 with tax. Selling for 38 becomes 36.
You will only be getting 0.62 on you dollar.

It appears techers would have been better served just stocking tech and dumping it when bushel prices dropped down to the low 40s.

Thats Russian roulette with a machine gun. Its a make or break gamble that most player wouldnt try.. Its a 2 month long set and decision have to be made early in the set not to take advantage of the high tech price.

The question I have is how is it that a big Fascist Farmer with maxed resource decay didn't win? I thought ASDL would have had more stock before he was attacked.

oldman Game profile

Member

How would max resource decay help to win? I didn't invest a single point in resource decay =)

As what Rob had mentioned, what hurt the techers this round was buying bushels at $60 and selling them at $40. I stopped grabbing approximately 2.5 weeks after some of the big stockpiling techers did. By that time, they probably had 300m bushels and I had none, but it helped that I was 20-25m nw ahead of the big stockpiling techers. It also helped me greatly that when I stopped grabbing, the stockpiling techers were dumping their bushels for $40-$42, which I prompty swept up. Of course, Trep did his part by running out of food =)

A farmer with max decay could sell bushels at $60 instead of stocking bushels. It is a risk to have all of your stock in money on hand, but the advantage is very large as there is no cost to stock and you can take full advantage of the bushel peak.

With that said it looks like jedioda played the top farmer, and he was a demo. So I may not have a good point.

Ya me trying to dump bushels early for 50+ (I was even hoping 55+) just blew up in my face oldman. It helped you get cheap bushels and win!

That said, people who say tehcers should have done something else just remember how small the game is right now. I was probably 10%+ of the tech being produced this set. Whatever I choose to do (stock tech, jump early, jump late, etc.) has such an effect on the market...

Not sure what I'm going this set but I"ll have a new name and it wont' be techer. Message me for D/intel allies=)

Asdl wasn't that fat earlier in the round, though. He grew longer and stocked shorter.

I was asdl, I was more or less fooling around trying things out. I learned some valuable lessons playing in primary as a farmer. When I destocked I had 310m bushells at the end, then ran out of cash one turn, jumbed a day to early and wasted my time jumbing as a Theo. If I were to to that all over again I would had jumbed as a facist, and would have been around 75m. Not bad for im going to call this my First real primary set.

Tech prices were loony high until much later than usual...so all non techers were late to stocking... There weren't more techers in the t10 because lots of them used the cash to buy mil and top feed/escape retals, rather than netting I reckon... That plus the food spike mentioned probably hurt them more than others like commies.

yeah, tech prices were still at ~$2000 6+ weeks into the game.

What's the highest NW a non CI has ever finished in Primary? I hope I'm in the top3 =) That said, it's quite impossible to beat a well run CI with other strategies. I just got lucky.

You got more than lucky oldman. I was amazed at the pace of your growth. I spied you after a couple of weeks and expected to see that you cut short on CS's and tech...but you planned it perfectly.

Very well played, I couldn't keep up last set.

trep Game profile

Member

I think it was a combination of oil and tech prices. I think it was costing me over 100m to grab for like a whole week. On the other side of that, daily risks of topfeeds because the techers had a lot more cash required a lot more defenses than countries carried in previous sets too.

I was on track with bakku's country last set most of the time, but I had some more risky grabbing which resulted in getting missled quite heavily. Though this wouldn't have mattered as I would have messed up the finish regardless =P

You ran your casher really well oldman. I thought I was keeping pace as we had the same amount of land till I stopped grabbing at 53k (which I reached first in fact after you failed one PS). My tech levels were high too in the high 170+% throughout and bpt at 100.

I didnt however know how to maximize on a demo casher. Perhaps you got the most out of being a republic.

Any thoughts on this? The gap between us ended up to be quite significant in the end.

I was ahead of both of your cashers until Bushwood Country club decided to be a fluffing idiot and picked a fight with me.

I didn't double tap anyone, but somehow among the early frontrunners, the country playing the least risky grabbing style was the one who had his set ruined :(

P.S. Bushwood country club got totally owned. He's lucky humanitarians in primary are at 1/4th, otherwise I would have hit him even longer than I did.

Rob: you did get to 53k a few hrs before me, but I've been storing turns all the way. I probably had 80(70) on hand when I reached 53k as well. My tech were kept in the 170s as well through most of my grabbing phase, especially when I was over 40k acres. The extra turns I had accounted for $4b advantage over your demo. Also, I noticed you jumped a few days after me which meant that you missed out on the $115 jets/turrets. All these factors coupled with you being retaled towards the end most likely account for the difference in the end net worth. This is my take, not sure if you agree with it.

Rockman: which country did you run?

oldman - I was Social Ecology. I was a tech start dict casher, I was 5th in land, then Bushwood hit me, and I was still 5th in land after retalling him thanks to ghost acres. Then he RoRd me, and hit me again 24 hours after that. So my response was to AB/BR him for over a week straight.
