lol. i was wondering who it was. are you doing this in other servers also? because I got the same thing happening in other servers.

And like stanrools said, it didn't really do anything. It was just plain trolling. I've bad that thing cured in one move every time. So it didn't really do anything at all. Thats why you're very low priority on my list right now lol.

Heehee, I recalled Bioterrorism being much harder to shake. I guess it's one of the changes to it. And I didn't really MEAN for it to come off as "Trolling".

Right now, over in Express, I'm trying to craft a "Thief" country. I only use the spy powers to steal Money, Bushels, and Tech while keeping most of my lands as Industrial Complexes. This way, I'm building a good military while still being able the "Research tech", "Make Money", and "Grow Food". Even though I'm not big on Free For All, I made a country at the start of the reset with this idea. The core concept seems to be working on both servers. I know over in FFA, I'm "Teching" 2000+ points a turn without a single research lab within my borders. Then I sell the Tech on the Market. ??? PROFIT!!!

I don't think it was ever hard. I've played earth 2025 many many years ago and stopped playing for a while and started again recently. But either way, it was pretty harmless in general and has been this way since forever. A few turns spent later, often one turn later, and its all over. And if you have residential zones, which most cashers or techers would have, immediately the later turns will have massive gains in population to make up for it due to the residential. So really it does nothing. Especially so large countries with a few hundred thousand population already.

It took me 11 turns to recover from 1 plague just today...Someone retalled me with a taste of my own medicine. ^.^!!

I'm finding the thief approach working, though. Instead of poisoning people, just steal from them <.<

Also, Hi, Buttman!
Might be related to your structures too. There could be some randomness involved also. I don't know how they programmed it.

For countries with lots of residential, it pretty much goes away right away. Or at most a few turns. And then the population gain will be higher subsequent to that to make up for the lost population. So, really, it turns out to be more of an annoyance than anything that does lasting damage.

Stealing tech is aggressive. To me its on the same level as a land grab if only slightly below it.

Really!? Oh wow.

I mean, I was under the impression that it's not nearly as bad as an out-and-out land grab. You're only stealing Tech, Bushels, or Money one at a time. You're not Taking land, destroying/taking buildings, taking Bushels, taking Money, taking tech, AND killing thousands of military units at once.

However, you did say "To me, it's on the same level..." So I'm pretty sure individual opinions may vary. ^.^

Stealing tech, especially when someone is teching full time is basically wasting their turns. It also lowers their net worth. When they get their food spiked, they lose some population which means less revenue but hardly significant, and after it cures all the population is recovered. So really, that is just an annoyance. It doesn't really affect their networth. When you steal tech, that is pretty aggressive. Less than a land grab, but aggressive nonetheless IMO. You are lowering their networth and you're wasting their turns essentially.

When you say you steal 1-2K research points per turn. Someone with 5-6K acres on research only generates 1.5K research points per turn. If you're successful you're not only wasting their turns and lowering their networth compared to their potential that way, but you can literally be stearing them backwards on the networth scale. They can't regenerate enough points per turn than you are stealing per turn.

Interesting. *Learning*

So would you say, if I were to continue crafting the finer points of this strategy, that I would want to limit my thefts to as sparingly as one would limit his or her land grabs? As in doing it no more than once or twice to any one country?

its the same thing as what you did with bio terrisum don't get caught and you can get away with what ever you want. if you do get caught by one person Im sure imminently their will be a can a woppass coming your countries way. Plus every time people start getting spyed like this we will assume its you so you will have to change your country name ever set.
Techer to win it all.

I was thinking the same thing about the changing of the country's name. But I more than likely will not try this strategy again in Tournament. The 25 Spy Op per day limit makes things kind of restrictive. And it actually factored into the reason I got caught. I didn't refresh my spy information and just went with the day old stuff so I wouldn't waste the limited number of ops.

And yes, wherever I attempt this, I know that there will be cans of whoop-ass on wholesale if I get caught. ^.^

That isn't a working strategy at all. If you're doing it to troll, fine. That reason has merits. But if you really think that is a good strategy, well its not. All you do is piss people off and potentially get a KR on you. You'd be better off dropping the spies and just upgrading your army and economy and using your turns getting research instead of trying to take it from others. Its more efficient, effective and less likely to get into trouble. You are bound to fail an op. Its not like you're invincible, even if you are 100% spies. And if you are then you are an easy retal/land grab. If they can't spy you to get your defense info, because your spy count is so high, well its easy enough to figure what they need to break you based on your networth anyway. Which means you'd be farmed and then dispatched. Failed strategy to try to win like that.

Look at all the countries you tried to steal from. I bet they are all multiple times your country's networth. Ask yourself why that is.

I agree, This is not a working strategy for a lone country on servers where you don't have teams, clans, or allies. And yes, it's definitely not a winning strategy. And I'm seeing now that trying to solo-country this strategy in Tournament is a diluted pipe-dream that will never in a million years work me to first place. But never did I once think I was invincible. My memory isn't THAT bad. The only reason I started using it here first was because tournament was the closest fresh reset at the time I wanted to try it from a fresh start to see how it could keep up.

This country build is ultimately not about networth or winning. Something like this is best suited for team play, where someone with high spy count can soften up targets before the allies sweep in for the kill on designated targets. This way, the allies can focus on having a beefed-up military for the strikes, and I can just tweak the odds from the shadows.

But in order for me to try to enact this strategy for future teams:

1. I have to learn how to use it. (All over again, in this case. Which is why I'm being so active with it right now.)
2. I have to once again recognize it's strengths and weaknesses.
3. I just need to have a better overall understanding of this game and its community. (Been playing for only 3 weeks after a 16-year hiatus. Gotta learn.)

Like I said, this country build won't see the light of say on solo servers from here on out. It just won't work that way because there's no team to assist. And even on the team servers, I'll be using this very sparingly, and only on designated targets. Now that I'm confident I have a feel for it again, I can scale back being so "Aggressive" with it.

The option is there for you to use. But it is again ineffective. There is a reason why the countries you are stealing from are bigger than you and has more tech than you, even as both of you started the same. Maybe you should get to the root of the problem. Its probably your inadequate style of play and their superior style that made then better in the first place. So instead of being a thief, it might make sense to try to be a king.

So again, if you're doing to troll thats fine. But if you're doing it because you think it gets you ahead, well you need more soul searching here. No country ever makes top 10 being a tech thief. Most people that make top 10 buy or research their own. Not only is it more targeted and tailored/effective for your strategy, because you are getting what you need at that point in time, while stealing of the type and amount of tech is random, but you also tend to get much more tech. And in the process you don't go around making random enemies.

This is pretty much the conclusion I came to that resulted in me posting this:

We're thinking the same thing, just wording it differently. Matter of fact, the current game of express I'm in is proving to me that the farmer approach looks more and more appealing to try here in tournament. Might add my own little spin to it because that's just the way I am, but at least it doesn't involve spies, stealing, or bioterrorism. >.>

The thing is stealing tech and cash are not technically considered, by the server anyways, as harmful ops, even though they clearly are. IMO the only non-harmful op is a normal spy to get information. The moment someone steals cash or tech that's offensive. Anyway, the server lets you do it to GDI countries so its not as offensive to them. I disagree though.
