So, all those criminals out there can either avoid those houses which potentially have guns in them. Or they can bust in, shoot up everyone with their own gun, then take the homeowners' little guns away from them, thus adding to their arsenal.

I gotta say, this is some serious Nazi-esque stuff going on (to get that out of the way).

Its New York city, nice place to visit I guess - but with a self appointed dictator that re-buys the mayors office every few years and takes away peoples Slurpees because HE knows whats best for them - what would you expect?

The NYT migrates closer and closer to tabloid every year.

This had to be the dumbest thing anyone could ever do, there's a reason that smart gun owners never tell anyone what they have unless they trust them thoroughly.....and its because we dont want our guns stolen by criminals who make us out to look like idiots....

people are ashamed to be listed as a gun owner maybe?

perhaps the information shouldnt be public but complaining because someone decided to collate it seems odd

a bit like the election ad rate thing where they would tell you the price paid if you went to the physical premises but objected to it being online

sort of saying data should be technically available but not in any useful manner

No, but they did manage to collate a list of all Jews living in their country, and in the countries they invaded. Of course, that list was a list of people based on who they were, rather than a list based on what they (in this case, potentially) had, but it's still a list of something that no one would expect to be collated and made public that someone obtained and made public. I mean, this isn't just "there are this number of gun permit owners living in this area"--this points fingers, names names, and gives their addresses. Not to mention the reasoning behind it--right after a tragedy involving guns in the same region.

Do you think you stop crime by owning a gun? If its locked up like its supposed to, you're outta luck. If its in your hand, you're forcing someone else to make the choice to shoot or be shot. Anyways most criminals aren't out looking to shoot random people, they will break into your fluff when you're not there. Oh look we found guns... Lets sell them to some gang bangers who want to kill eachother. Oh little Suzy got shot by a stray bullet... Thank god for all our extra guns in town!!!

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. The information should be private and I hope more states designate the information as belonging to the permit holders so that the public is not permitted to find out like this.

Is there seriously someone in here that thinks its a good idea to make this information similarly presented as a sex offender list? What if they posted all the prescriptions of Oxycontin in town? Granted its not legal, but would it be a good idea? Guns are targets for criminals, that's why a lot of us gun owners dont tell anyone what we have! Crazy as it may seem also, some of us enjoy hunting! Or target shooting! We're not all prepping for the zombie apocalypse!!!

In the peoples republic of New York, New Jersey, California among many others you are required to get a firearms purchaser id card to buy long guns and a separate permit for every handgun you buy. If a handgun permit is issued it becomes public record. Just because a permit was issued does not mean that a gun was ever purchased or is present in that particular household. If could have been sold, gifted to a family member, inherited in an estate if the purchaser died or even stolen but the issuing of the permit will stay public record.

In non commi states you are not required to acquire a permit to buy a long gun or handgun so no such records exist. If you are buying from a licensed dealer and you have proper state id, military orders or law enforcement equivalent you can buy any (non NFA) weapon with an FBI back ground check.

If you are a criminal you would go to your nearest low income densely populated area and look for sneakers hanging over a telephone poll. Stand under the sneakers and wait for the shady looking guy that was watching you from the nearby second floor window to approach you. Now you buy whatever you want to include handguns and NFA firearms in cash no questions asked, no returns.

This is a dumb thing to do, despite being protected under the first ammendment.

But then, doing dumb thing just because there's an ammendment to say you can is something all gun owners ought to be familiar with.

Definitely. Owning a tool for self defense is dumb. Owning a tool for hunting is dumb. Total reliance on govermnent entities for every single one of your needs is the only thing that makes sense. Failure to recognize that the government can live your life for you better than you can, is dumb.

Dumb dumb dumb.

Well, Supertodd, the government thinks it can spend your money better than you can. Thus, they can keep criminals at bay just by passing a law saying so. So, the next time you're faced with some guy who has broken into your house, just get out the newspaper report about it and tell him that he should leave now.

I recall 2 months ago NYC had martial law due to Sandy. There were houses being raided by looters and people were forced to use anything they had to defend themselves.

One guy even used a bow and arrow.

http://www.nydailynews.com/...looters-article-1.1196031

Banning firearms on law-abiding citizens is only giving criminals an added advantage.

That is a logical fallacy. Gun owners cannot be robbed because they always shoot the intruders, right?
