Does anyone else think its a little bass-ackwards when growing your country through hostile attacks - ranging from abusing untagged countries on a server advertising its alliance play to attacks made against your allies - is absolutely reviled while the all explore strategy is seen to be the best possible and most feasible growth strategy?

Wouldn't it be easier for the mods to just write the code once preventing same-tag hits from occurring?

More importantly than forfeiting all those tournaments, they'd lose tax exempt status.

1) Buy a lot of land in the middle of nowhere.

2) Build houses for myself and any family members who might want to visit or reside on the land with me. They'd be close enough for easy access, but spread out enough for privacy. Using tree lines or topography to not allow line of site between homes would add to the illusion of privacy.

3) Put enough head of cattle on the land to qualify for agricultural tax benefits.

4) Prepare for the worst.

Who says they won't get two bids too? The Big Ten may only be adding Nebraska at the moment, but for the most part nobody seems to think that they're stopping there. Once they dismantle the Big East, they can get their 2nd bid too. Shoot, with the way the SEC has been going lately, they can almost command 2 bids from the current 12 teams.

Anyways, the two bids theory is just a tangent of the larger discussion.

There are plenty of valid reasons for both the Big Ten and PAC-10 to expand. #1 is the fact that neither have enough teams to have a championship game. 12, 16 or somewhere in between, it was only a matter of time before at least 3 teams were added to these two conferences. Colorado has always made the most sense for the PAC-10 (and had been in discussions previously that didn't pan out). Assuming Notre Dame will never join the Big Ten (which they won't now and never will), Nebraska makes as much or more sense than any other school except maybe Pitt.

I agree with you though, it does start to get a little ugly when you think about the Texas and Oklahoma teams in the same conference as the Washington and Oregon teams. However, my mind is eased slightly (though not totally) when I think of it as two 8 team conferences (The PAC-8 is back! Woo hoo!) that have such a close relationship that they do everything together.


What will ultimately be the downfall of these "Super Conferences" will be the same thing that has lead to the down fall (or at least weakening, if it can survive) of the Big XII. They have to care about each other's interests, not just their own. The Big XII was 12 separate universities whose interests just happened to usually be in alignment. Contrast that to the Big Ten which was 11 universities united for their mutual benefit. The Big Ten is expanding because they have a good working model. The Big XII is dissolving because they are a model of what a conference should not be.

It won't blow up in the PAC-16's face if they can secure the Big XII's BCS bid, giving them 2.

It would definitely distinguish this server from the others, especially if the trend towards and multi-tag teams continue to increase.

Are you asking what they internally limit themselves to for land grabbing (ie: no more than X hits against clans, no more than X hits against untags), or are you asking about what retaliatory attacks they accept in response to their land grabs?

Nascar is no less of a sport than golf. I believe that is a fair comparison considering the success individuals have had in both with significant leg injuries.

Seriously though, I've heard that the biggest difference between male and female flights in basic military training is that the male flights start out as individuals out to protect themselves and eventually come together as a unit under adversity. The female flights more often than not seem to be coalesce under the same adversity much quicker but also seem to grow apart and fracture into small groups or individuals much more often. Thats just the over-generalized trend I've heard third or fourth hand from TI's, so take that for what its worth.

Any action on their behalf during their war contributes to their war effort. It may not be as direct as participating in kill runs, but sending FA is a less direct contribution too. This, using turns and resources to retal land grabs against them, is just as much a contribution. If DTCP was an insignificant tag full of morons and "n00bs" nobody respected, would you accept PowerNap's cross-tag retaliatory strikes? Or would you take advantage of them, farm them, and retal PowerNap for their land grabs?

The point I'm trying to make here is that Policing is a time honord and sanctioned use of cross-tag retaling. PowerNap is cross-tag retaling for DTCP.

And if they actually were called in and participated in kill runs, it'd be x-killing.

I really hate to say it but Mr. Lime has a point. What's the difference between someone being unable or unwilling to retal due to warfare and someone being unable or unwilling to retal due to netting? Either way, if you have close friends who have your back, might will ultimately make right.

If they believe it is an improper retaliatory strike - and then render you incapable of performing further any such strikes - then it is something to be concerned with on any of those servers. Might makes right, whether its right or not.

wrt change #3... Am I missing something or does this change very little? Don't get me wrong, its a good change (at least a step in the right direction), but it still lets everyone accomplish the same thing.

My recommendation is to make it impossible to kill yourself while having a 24 hour (or maybe base it on accrued turns) holding period before the country is taken out of the game. Not really sure how to properly fully implement this, but thats why they don't pay me the big bucks.
