If I really wanted to own a gun I could go to a friend and have one in the time it takes to call someone and have arrangements made for a meeting. How does gun control stop me from doing that?

Because of the gun control thingy, there will be few friends with few weapons available ?

There won`t be almost 1 gun / citizen in USA (infants, babies up to 3 years old, 3-14 years old, over 60 years old - included) therefore you might have a hard time finding a friend with a gun and almost impossible to find one with an assault rifle ...

See - i do have a gun and i think i have seen it max 5-6 times in the last 3 years ( mainly for maintenance or shooting fireworks @ new years eve or cousin wedding ). However, if i wouldn't own one and i would try to find a gun at a friend, i would have a really hard time to do that. You just made me think how many of my friends have a gun - and i can`t really name one in my mind now ( and no - it`s not because i don`t have friends | - * | ). I think an old friend - who is a forest-men nowadays do have some.

And i can assure you i am a free citizen in my country. Sure, politicians are corrupted as fluff here, but i am for sure a free man.

Let me put it this way.

I have seen a revolution. I have seen street fights ( involving weapons like Ak-47) btw civilians and the army leaded that time by communists. Shortly after the success of the revolution there was no Police, Law force of established military for almost 2 years (yea - imagine that ).

I have seen riots of unleashed crowd of what you call rednecks
( like 20k of them ) a couple of times rioting in the capital of the country in the starting years of democracy.

err the "proof and facts" go against what you're saying...

look at the numbers on that page for the Western World, ignoring the developing world - higher gun ownership - higher gun related homicide rate. just because the map is made so that all of the countries have the same color for murder rate but a different color for gun ownership doesn't mean that the homicide rates are the same (click on them to see the numbers). And once again, the US is the standout performer! God bless freedom!

download the data, remove developing countries, run a basic regression in Excel (linest) or look at the correlation. The beta for the regression of guns per 100 citizens and firearm related murders is 25 and the correlation is 70%.

china owns the US. coastal brasil is up to par. south africa is very developed considering damn near every other country on the continent. india could be on that list soon if they get their fluff together.

on the flip side you have greece and italy in dire need of financial recovery, the US regressing compared to the rest of "developed" countries in innovation, japan has an ever increasing spending to GDP ratio that makes the US look good with money (they just know how to get the money)... need I go on?

I only picked the countries I did (russia, et al.) due to the low number of guns per hundred people and the fact that they have some of the highest gun murder rates in the world

I skimmed the first page, then went to the last.

Once Austria elected to annex out to Germany during WWII one of the first things he did was make tighter gun restrictions etc.

The easiest way to take away someones rights is to make them feel like you are protecting them. Obama wants to take away guns so everything that is done even little will be blown up. Just sayin.

We need to ban books. Once upon a time in a small Michigan town, a former School Board Commissioner grew upset following foreclosure proceedings on his house because of a school-related property tax he opposed. He used some books (this is even pre-internet) to research building homemade explosive devices and then proceeded to commit the worst school attack in US history.

Knowledge is obviously a dangerous thing. How will we restrict this? We could take the Singapore approach and simply ban anything that could remotely resemble an explosive, but then we would have dirty homes, no fuel for our vehicles and so forth.

Maybe we just ban the possession of such knowledge. We'll do a China-like filter of all things deemed bad on the internet.

Or maybe we will just follow your tank application process.

Obviously we can ban our way out of tragedy.
