H4xOr, Bell owns TSN, so there will still be games shown there. Bell already has a minority stake in the Montreal Canadiens and not PPV there. TV is going the way of the typewriter as people watch more over the internet. This is just a way for these companies to keep the bottom line in black as their traditional markets lose ground to Netflix et al.

LeafsTV is basically a PPV service. it has that capacity if you don't buy a package.

LeafsTV is a subscription channel and the cost doesn't depend on how many games you watch. If they expand it and you already have the service, then you get more for your money.

Again, Montreal and Winnipeg are exclusively aired on TSN. Why would Bell allow more Leafs game to shift from one property where they earn 100% of the profit to one where they earn 37.5% of the profit?

Every Leafs game is aired nationally with 17 already on TSN. The move allows Bell to outbid by 60% other companies for more at the next network deal, as they'll give themselves that much of the income.

I'll bet anyone $100 that there are as many Leafs game on basic cable next season as this one.

yes mapleson but Bell only owns like 8% of the Canadians, which is a far cry from the majority stake that Bell/Rogers now owns of the leafs.

I know because I am currently a subscriber to the service. My options were to pay like $1.99 per game i watch on it, like $15 for 10 games, or like $40 for the whole season.
And these are just the subset of games that isn't available on TSN/CBC.

there have consistently been less Leaf games on TSN/CBC since Leafs TV started and it seems like there's more and more every year that I need to pay extra for.

I am also a leafs TV online suscriber, and it is very much based on the # of games you want to watch.

You must have more money then sense if you buy games individually or small packs. It's $40 for the full season (51 games). The last deal for broadcast games was for the 2007-8 season and since then the number of games has been consistant. Did either of you want to take my bet?

Yes Mapleson there is a package for all games (which is what a bought) but that proves the point doesn't it?

There is a package for all games, a package for X number of games, and packages for single games. Thus there is differing pricing schemes based on the # of games you wish to watch...

as a rule, i don't bet money against people over the internet.

also, don't forget that you used to get all 82 games (or at least like high-70s) on TSN/CBC/Sportsnet previously

that $40 extra I spend is $40 more than I used to need to spend to see the same number of games.
and this doesn't give you the leafs tv channel, so all I get is games -- no extras.

Wow, I'm glad I'm a Bruins fan and all of our games are available in my basic cable service at no additional cost.

I don't know. Something just doesn't feel right about Rogers and Bell reducing public access to the Leafs. I feel like they should know better. Rogers has done a great job with the Jays. Every game is live on the Fan and Sportsnet. Now obviously the demand for Jays games isn't what it would be for Leafs games - there's no way I'm paying money to watch any Jays game short of the playoffs - but reducing public access to the Maple Leafs is just so... well you don't do it. It's the Leafs! How do other big market teams operate? Do you have to pay extra to see the Yankees in NY? The Lakers in LA? The Packers in GB? etc.

Personally I already have the package that includes Leafs TV. Unless Rogers removes it and makes it part of their Super Sports Pack or makes it a stand-along channel I'm fine. More bang for buck as Mapleson said. And I like a lot of the unique things that they have on Leafs TV in terms of pre-game access. But I can see how it can be a problem for others.

Oh, and it's crazy that the sale of a $1.32 billion property only represents slightly more than 1% of Teachers. 2041 is going to be a nice year for me :)

In the end the team still sucks lol. Granted my team over the past few years isnt any better. But still an owner is an owner and whatever name they plaster all over the arena isnt going to make the team any better.

Well at least there is a salary cap in the NHL. Rogers won't look so cheap compared to all the other team owners that want to win, and not just derive a profit.

Move to Canada. We can't watch Thursday games on NFL Network. We watch them on TSN. Sucks though - NFL Network is HD but I don't have TSN HD.
