does anyone ever experience a glitch where you send 1 attack and suddenly it tries a second attack automatically?

I've seen it. I think maybe its a delay in sending the enter command, and then I hit enter again because it didn't go. But who knows?

Its very rare. Maybe its your mouse, or maybe you have a choppy Internet connection. Or maybe someone has a keystroke recorder on your computer.

I've seen that happen, it happened to me in the FFA game once while creating countries and somehow I wound up with 32 countries, and had to delete 16 of them.

You can mitigate this by just slightly over the amount of oil you need for the attack. The second attack will not occur since you will be out of oil after the first attack.

But I've never had this situation occur to me before.

I used to have a mouse that double clicks upon a single click. (a really old mouse). change your mouse.

Because it doesn't. You can`t have both - speed when attacking + prevention.

the attack button's one of those that you have to double click.

I have a slow internet connection (satellite) which allows me to do up to about 8 attacks per second. It's fine when you have the units to send and the readiness to back them up, but when you start running out of one of those, and you waste 6 or 7 turns on failed attacks....sigh.

I am a troll. Everything I say must be assumed to be said solely to provoke an exaggerated reaction to the current topic. I fully intend to bring absolutely no substance to any discussion, ongoing or otherwise. Conversing with me is pointless.
