I'm new to the game, but I started getting hooked immediately. :) Wanted to say hi to the community as this is the server I made my first country in. Could use tips or guidance too!

most basic advice i can give you is specialize. Build your country to produce one thing and use that one thing to acquire others. Bushels, cash, tech, or military. pick one of those and get to work.

demo farmer is probably the easiest country to run imo. this means your government is a Democracy, and other than a few hundred indys and construction sites, all your buildings are farms. you sell that food in order to deal with your negative income and to purchase military and tech.

apply the same logic to any other strat.

etc. there are a ton of ways to play this game.

I preferd casher as a new starting basis as buying everything is much easier then selling food to pay for the rest.

Cashes build Enterprise (boosts GDP) and Residents (boost population)

More people more money. Build a few Industrial and set production to 100% spies.

This will protect you from other players attemptING to look at your country for weakness. This is called your SPAL, it is directly related to your land. 1 acre : 1 Spy 1SPAl. 1 acre:10spys 10 SPAL. The better your SPAL the harder it is to look at your country. Knowing this SPYS cost a little more then 1$ per spy so you have to find an amount that works good for you.

From here on out its fairly simple.

Set your country type based on strategy picked.

Build 40 Counstruction sites. (Every 20 raises building rates 5 buildings per turn)

Other players may not agree but here I build 60 farms.
This then uses all 100 acres I start with.
I explore for more land, then build more CS.

I do this till I reach my Buildings Per turn (BPT in advisor) that I'm happy with. NoW at this point you will have a lot of food. You can then sell it or explore and build more. Like Mr.Ford said you Want to build a few Industrial to produce spies and rest Farms.

For selling purposes you can do whats right for you, I personally sell for 1-2$ less then the markets current price. If its below 36 I sell on my private market.

i agree with cable that its easier to start as casher since then no need to worry if goods sold to be able to play turns.

Just make sure to keep an eye on your food.

And, as Frybert said, join GDI, asap, without fail. GDI will protect you from the worst attacks unless you yourself start attacking. And this game is very brutal and unforgiving if you don't have that GDI protection, you will just be slaughtered, and all your assets taken, and don't mention if you have a family.

At the bottom left of the Main Menu screen of your country you will see the GDI menu. Go there right away and sign up. There are ways to get it for free using bonuses, but for now, just get it.

I agree with the others. Casher or farmer are best for beginners. That doesn't mean they aren't as good techer or indy.

I prefer farmer myself. Get a lot of military tech and you won't be reliant on the public market. You won't have to worry about running out of food or cash.

Hello there, I'm new too, freakin love this game. The express server is especially cool, so fast paced. Which is better, money or military when building?

You need both. But how much military or what type really depends on your strategy. Grabbing land or exploring? You don't want so much military that it costs too much. But you need enough to defend what you have built already.

and spies of course.

also you need to ready to retal attacks done against you.

First few sets I'd worry less about Retals and more about practicing building good countries. Once this is down then worry abut grabs and reals.

Wiki says farmer is good for beginner, but my personal preference is still casher to learn the game :D

I'm playing casher right now. Could someone tell me how combat works in this game? I don't really know what units to purchase.

Go on wiki and read how attacks work vs defending units.

There's 2 types of land grabbing attacks SS and PS both are very different.

The best advice I can give you is to play the game fairly. Only attack a country for land one time, and no more. Anything over that results in warfare operations being done. For example, #114 is learning this lesson even as we speak.

This is a retarded statement, "play the game fairly" everything is fair in this game, you make your decsions. You don't want a war be "nice" and don't double tap and don't do harmful spy ops.

You only need oil to attack. Unless you are reselling it. It is not worth the effort. Get turrets, they will protect you and boost networth.

read the wiki on earth and talk to some of the vets here/message.

most of the stuff u need is all available in the forums. but you can always ask.

oh OIL is not a good strat for new players.

All players should start in GDI., with the option to leave it.

It does not support stupidity. It protects ignorance. The difference is as subtle as it is important.

No one week on the server getting bombed to hell protects ignorance, or a helpful thread where everyone tells you to join GDI. If you've played more then one week you should know to join GDI.

Not all new players use the forums.
Nor is finding or knowing about GDI intuitive.

Even Cable, who suggests it's trivial for a new player to know about GDI., couldn't as a veteran player, list all things which GDI allows/prevents & its drawbacks. If he could., I wouldn't post on the forums for the rest of the month of Nov.
