While building my land:
An earthquake occurred destroying 492 buildings!

And at the end of my turns, still 325 acres needing to be built up as industrial complexes. So, my last turn was at:
You Produced: 99,823 Turrets and 76 Oil Barrels.

Damn earthquakes. I'd be at 100k a turn if it weren't for them.

We seriously need to remove earthquakes from the game. No one likes em.

Rockman said produced 99,823 turrets / turn. Superstring impossible him.
99,823 PTP at least need 25k land above.
So, only #103 & #14 possible is him, with my analyst I dont think he will fail so many att, most probably he is #14.

You think? Im playing techer but I suck at it. I still log out top 10 most of the time though.

Would you spy on targets if you play techer? I don't, but I fail quite a few grabs and am losing over 500k jets a day now. It's not problematic right now but maybe not all that efficient compared to using some turns to spy?

Wow, no spying at all? What's your country? #131? Not too bad for not spying... but I personally definitely spy... hitting blind you could be way oversending, thus preventing additional hits, or you could fail, thus wasting a brigade full of jets. If you have a high SPAL you won't use too many turns spying.

One thing you can do to keep spying to a minimum is to not use Spy on Allies... or do Spy on Allies and then estimate the ally defense instead of spying on the allies as well.

Magellaan did my in-game msgs with you make you ask your question about spying? Another thing you can do is spy alliances on your target, spy on the allies, and then grab them too. There are two advantages to this, one is you save turns spying an extra guy, the other is you lower the overall D (allies D + his allies D power) of the bunch on each hit.

The above two posts are quality. A third thing you can do is look at who your D/intel allies are grabbing and use this to find good targets (make sure to correctly sync up which brigade is which attack)

Sometimes what I will do to save a turn spying is to spy into their relations, then do a search on their defensive allies to get their networth. Once I have their networth, i will go back and review my old spy reports (I save them all) to see if I can find one that is around their networths. If I can find a close match I will take their military strength (including jets as turrets just in case the ally is all turrets), and use that as my estimation of my target's allies defense.

As a Demo techer, I understand you reluctance on spending turns spying. I have a lot of spies to make sure I keep failing to a minimum. I also don't try to spy into a target more than twice if i fail, just move to the next.

I used to do a thing where if I'd have a saved spy op of somebody's defensive ally, I would get their new defense by looking at the old op and assuming most of their networth increase since then was turrets. But now that you have to choose to save spy ops I tend not to have those anymore. But this is part of what makes def allies interesting, a lot more spy choices involved, and spies are more important. I unintentionally have weirdly high spies this set, I think I've failed 4 ops all round.

wow, good tips people.
Yes, Bee.. our convo got me thinking :)

One turn of teching for me is profitable enough to buy back all my jets if I lose 100k of them or more even in a grab. Even with failing a grab now and then not spying seems to make sense.

Except, I'm looking at some of the top commies and they use way more PSs then me and thus its not just them being able to do more grabs but also getting more per grab. Now I doubt they have 5 times the amount of jets I currently use in a PS (although who knows hah) so I think that might be the great advantage of spying. To use less jets and then be able to do 4-5 PSs a day and make it worthwhile to spy because of higher gains.
Not MD, fake Magellaan.

Magellan: spying definitely helps. You're probably over-sending on most of your hits. Also, I notice you do a series of SS and then ends with a PS. Might be a better idea to just split up your jets and do 3-4 PS a day instead of 4-5 SS and then a PS. You probably get about the same amount of land.

Bee Game profile

I was actually wondering that oldman, is it better to do 3-4 PS on small targets or a few SS and then a PS on a bigger target to end your day?

And Magellaan, on bottom feeds I lose about 25k-30k jets max.

herbs12 Game profile

Member

Nov 27th 2012, 15:44:51

Bee it's all based on gains vs loses. I personally think 4,5 ps a day will always be better use of resources compared to any ss hits.

A huge factor we all will be accounting for is oil cost. Soon it will be unaffordable to grab with ss when oil breaks 200 a barrel. Right now it's not to bad but when you look at all the landfat countries they all do ps each day and leave it at that.

Almost all the time, 3-5 PSs and 0 SS will provide sufficient growth. The limitation on growth tends to be economy - having the money to maintain/grow techs and to build all the land you grab. Doing just PS is more efficient if this is your limitation, because you lose less jets and use less oil.

If your limitation is that you have the economy, but you don't have the bpt, just PS is also better.

If your limitation is that you have the economy and the bpt, but that you don't have the jet power to gain enough land from just PSs, and buying more jets (because you have the economy) won't solve this problem, then growth through a combination of SS and PS is optimal.

Due to the anti-bottomfeeding, pro-landtrading ghost acres nerf, SS attacks have become even less useful for bottomfeeders. They're generally only useful against a target that is worth hitting even when the ghost acres are gone.

Sometimes I feel that my only limitation is time. I have the economy to build the land, the turns to take the land, but am being restricted to attacking only a certain amount because of PS waiting periods... this is most often true on Express but I've seen it come into play on Primary to a lesser degree.
